I finally getting my opportunity to hit Hickory Run State Park in 2 weeks. It's going to be a mini family camping trip (first one ever) so my fishing time will be limited, although I got the OK. I'll post my results if there is anything worth mentioning.

Perhaps it's a reference to the spelling AuSable as opposed to Ausable (Michigan vs NY.) I will be hitting the river myself this weekend, that is if it isn't blown out by a mixture of rain and melting snow runoff. I believe that the key will still be deep and slow trying to work the holding...
Thanks for the info. I'll be fishing from a boat so I will have access to a fishfinder with thermometer and maps of course. This is my first time fishing lakers, let alone with a fly rod. Hopefully I can post some pics if we have some luck.

Photo #4 (the rock island) is one of my favorite pools on the Ausable. It can be treacherous to get to when the river is running high. Always big fish there! I'll be up there for 2 weeks and apparently the river is currently fishing very well.
