Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
Not afraid of the skunk, just hoping the water has some character. W/ limited time to fish I'm not sure if it is worth a try. I can live w/ slow fishing and enjoy a new challenge, but I do try to avoid boring water.
Anyone recently fish the FF only area on the Musconetcong near hacketstown?Near rt 517 and rt 57. How about the trout conservation area on the South Branch near Rt 513 and rt 24?
Are they worth a try?
I use the Down's Chest fly box by Downstream products. I have it w/ 4 boxes/drawers attached. One of boxes is set up for dry flies, one for streamers and 2 I use for nymphs . 2 of the boxes I have attached the C&F inserts w/ slits.
Used it for about 4 years now and still like it. When I feel...
I ordered a cheaper one (around $25) from Hook & Hackle when ordering some other supplies. I do not know how the quality compares to the more expensive staffs, but is ok so far for my limited use. It has got me out of trouble a few times when I got half way accross a flooded stream and realized...
Weight needed will vary on the area of the stream you are fishing. 10 meters up or down stream may require weight change. If you get caught on the bottom every now and then, you have the correct amount of weight on.

What do you like to make your bodies out of for your starling soft hackle?
Also, which colors have you done well with on the midge magic patterns?
Do you use the hatch chart in the book, or just try whatever?

Ed Shenk also has a video out where he ties his famous flies. ( Big Ugly, minow, scud, cricket/hopper.) I enjoyed it.
Also had the chance to fish w/ him at Allenberry at a class he taught. He is a fun guy that can catch fish. He could easily out cast my best efforts w/ a little 6 foot cane...
You're getting good advise. The flytying books by Skip Morris are great to show you "how to." Great pictures, clear explinations. Don't wait for a class, get started. Plenty of stuff on line. Go to a fly fishing show or a fytying syposium when you can to see other people tie.
For me the kits...
