    Lakes/Ponds Around Middlesex County

Forgot to mention Molder's Fishing Preserve next to Raceway Park. It's pay-to-fish but is loaded with bass, catfish, and other species. One of those places everyone should try at least once.

    Lakes/Ponds Around Middlesex County

I grew up in Marlboro and fished some of the surrounding area a bit when I was younger. It's been many years now but I caught some nice bass & pickerel below the dam at Weston's Mill Pond and also saw some giant carp caught in the pond itself. Lake Manalapan over in Monroe is another good one...

    River Run Restaurant

Haven't been there for a while but I've eaten at River Run a few times over the years and it's always been very good. I second the recommendation for the restaurant next to the Sunoco station in Horton (Riverside Cafe) - it's excellent. Only about a 25 min drive from Hale Eddy. And another, just...

    10 pound Delaware trout

Awesome fish. Several years ago a 30 incher was taken in the same general vicinity on a caddis. I always thought it would be cool to snorkel or scuba to the bottom of some of the deep holes like the 191 or just below the Shehawken ramp, or the Deposit sewer plant or the Jesus pool. Can just...

    Where are they now?

Good times. I can report that after narrowly surviving drowning in Alaska a few years back (ask Brachy about it), that Pat and myself put the beatdown on a bunch of Lake Ontario browns & Salmon River steelies earlier this spring. I even tried my best to do a Beetle impression - of course mine is...

    Salmon river news

Probably a publicity stunt in regards to the "optics" aka local public perception of the Barclay family in general, and Will Barclay in particular. It sounds like the project will be built, grant or no grant. I don't follow the area politics closely but during election years I have seen Will's...

Rods loomis nrx vs sage one

Didn't we just recently have a discussion where some of us (ahem) declared we weren't chasing the latest and greatest anymore? Oh yeah, we did! - http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=27821 Anyway, I've not yet tried a Sage One, I've only briefly thrown a 5wt NRX and agree it...

    The Hat

Indeed! Lots of good karma in fishing hats.

    skagit / scandi advice

I may have had one too many beers tonight, but for the life of me I can't imagine why you would want to throw such a god-awful rig as that on the Catt. I haven't been there in a number of years, but we just fished floating lines and yarn indicator rigs with a few tiny split shot and a single egg...

Salmon River - Anyone ever have success with Kings on the swing?

As far as water type goes, for swinging it will often be different water than someone would typically fish when high sticking. A good place would be a spot where a fish would rest after working its way up through a stretch of fast water. For example, in the DSR, the small (unnamed as far as I...

Salmon River - Anyone ever have success with Kings on the swing?

I don't swing flies for salmon too much either, but I do know of a few guys who are dialed in to it and do fairly well. In some cooler / rainy years there would be small-medium pushes (and sometimes even major runs) early on, like late August - early September, and before it got crowded you’d...

    Letort Springs

I've not fished it myself, but have driven around a little and looked at it briefly when attending some of the classic car shows at the Carlisle fairgrounds. Just driving and following the stream you'll find the bridges crossing the creek, some will have pulloffs where you can park and fish...

Newest Fly Rods getting more expensive

I agree, I used to upgrade my arsenal every so often, but I pretty much stopped with the Sage XP for my dry fly rods, and the Xi3 for the salt. And a LL series for small streams that I will never sell to buy something else. They say that Lefty Kreh can throw an entire fly line using no rod at...

I think you'll get by ok with the five.

    So, tell me about Maine..

I haven't been up there for probably close to 30 years, but I fished the East Branch of the Penobscot just outside of Baxter State Park in August one time and caught tons of smaller landlocks, and some brookies also. I would have to think there are larger fish to be had there as well. From what...
