Sage 99 5wt rod is great

Im glad to hear the rod performs well. As a big time nympher myself i was interested in one but couldnt spend that much on it.

    Goose attack

I say grab the bastards by the neck and shake! There are too many of them anyway.

lots of beautiful NJ wild fish today

That section of that stream doesnt stay high for long. It comes alive with dries right about now, some nice fish there. You can almost fish dries year round there and an EHC is almost all you need. ~Gabe~

    Favorite Knot

I just stick with the clinch knot for almost everything, quick and easy.

Snake guides vs single foot guides

Definitely let them know. I prefer snake guides for looks and tradition. I dont really know if it affects performance, i have a rod with single foot guides and dont notice anything. ~Gabe~

Good tandem rig for right now?

Some beadhead prince nymphs will always work now. A zug bug too. Small midges as mentioned. Black pheasant tails also.

    got out today(3/3/10)

I have fished the LL a few times each winter when the crowds are minimal, good river. Does the Heritage Stretch stay open all year, as in not closed now before opening day? Rod is a good guy. Ive never asked for fishing advice but he is far from a dickhead, just a nice guy to chat with. Be...

    Anyone worked with a StreamFlex?

Have you tried a 10'? I liked my 9' until i used a rod that had that extra foot. BIG difference in line control and the ability to reach more water without letting out extra line. You can use an 8' rod for high sticking, i have when i needed too but nothing compares to having a 10'.

    Anyone worked with a StreamFlex?

I have that exact rod, get it! It is great for general nymphing and is even better for high sticking. Its also nice and light. You wont be dissapointed. ~Gabe~

    Catch & Release

There is no reason for NJ to be all C&R. The state stocks many waters that cant support trout year round, basically everything a few miles south of Rt. 78 with some exceptions. I only keep a trout if it wont make it, and thats maybe 1 a year if its gill hooked with a big bugger. Fishing is and...

    NEFF Myth Busters

I think the recent fad for longer rods is a nymphing thing. Ive been using a 10' 4wt for a few years now. Its not the rod that stops you from hauling in a fish but like you said, the tippet. I use 5x at the lightest and with a 5lb breaking strength you can haul in almost every fish you catch in...

    The ultimate bamboo rod build

Wow that reel seat is amazing. Ive never seen one like it. Great work. I cant wait to see the finished product. ~Gabe~

    Fly Tying at Hacklebarney TU

As a new member and one who has lurked for a while i always said i would stay out of these battles but i have a few comments after watching this go on. <O:p I cant understand the argument over how you "title" a fly tier or spending some extra money on a special speaker. TU sounds like a great...
