Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

    Need "experts" opinion

Not a surprising response. Look at what they do about fruit flies in california.

    Manchester England England

The train system in the UK is great. Combine that with local buses, and you can get pretty much anywhere in England in <4 hours. The lake district is beautiful if you are into lake fishing. Important fishing fact: They don't have a law against drinking in public.

    Fracking is completely safe....

I don't normally get into debates about global warming, mostly because it's like hitting your head against a wall (on BOTH sides of the debate). That said, I see arguments about politician's beliefs/statements and global warming a lot, and it makes no sense at all. When is the last time we went...

    Salmon River fly rods

Fellas, the rod doesn't matter. It's all in the technique: First ya need a good strong hook, like the kind they sell for tuna fishin. Then ya add a couple of egg sacks, doesn't really matter what color cause we're just after the scent. But make it three or four of em. In fact, let's call these...

    Salmon River fly rods

A 10ft 7wt is great for indicator nymphing for steelhead imo. Also good for swinging flies, though a slightly longer switch rod would give you better control over the swing in higher water. If you want to do the tight line nymphing bit, you might consider a longer rod too (I don't do this on the...

Delaware River FFMP/OST: the good, the bad .....

Just a note on the chart. The minimum flow (1985, lowest in 50 years) was 85. Way lower than this year. We are merely in the bottom 25%, or 12.5 years, for the period. Why is it below 50%? Because that's the nature of random (stochastic) events. Sometimes you throw bad dice.

    Switch rods

If you like swinging streamers or nymphing while wading, a 4-5 wt switch is great. Be prepared for a learning curve on casting...and don't buy a switch just to lob out crappy roll casts. So much more effective if you cast somewhat properly. The only cons in have found are: sucks if you find...

    Knot or Ring?

I really like tippet rings, especially for dries. Sometimes I use them nymphing, but honestly, there isn't much of a difference between a tippet ring + split shot and a barrel swivel except the price. "Tippet ring" sounds better, but really, save $5 and go with a knot or a swivel in most cases.

    What flies do you tye?

Lots of things I agree with here, but here are my main reasons for taking up tying: You will have the flies you want, even beyond what fly shops sell. I've caught more fish on an Iron Lotus variant than on a few standard patterns combined, but have never seen it in a fly shop (not sure why it...

    WINTER STEELEHEAD: Keeping warm

GB, I've got nothing against you...so take this in a friendly way. I roll up to the river in my Redington gear, and I'm just happy to be able to stand in a river and maybe catch some fish. Why care if the guy next to you is wearing all simms and fishing a sage rod? Who cares where or how they...

    spey confusion

I've been working on this for a year or so as well, and I couldn't find a single good resource...here's what I think I've got down (still learning): The line(s) you want depend mostly on what you want at the end of them. Your first question should be, is this a dedicated swinging line? If...

Is Climate change science really settled?

Sadly this is true, and often reflects an overly ideological approach to energy/carbon emissions reform. While I have nothing against California Condors, I would gladly trade them for a significant overall improvement to the environment. IMO, it's time to start triaging endangered populations...

Is Climate change science really settled?

Fair point. I often avoid the crazy comments, but you're right about the benefit of a reasonable discussion. TN: To be fair, you're correct that the life sciences and physics/climate researchers are really different groups, and I can't speak to the honesty of scientists that I don't interact...

Is Climate change science really settled?

I tried to stay out of this... Wow. Ignoring the "historical" (I'm assuming you mean fossil) record, and the difference between species diversity and success for a single species... ...can you really write this on a site mostly dedicated to a group of fish that require cold water? Really...

Is Climate change science really settled?

This article makes some very good points. I interact with scientists studying various aspects of climate change (or climate change related effects) fairly regularly. It's not a single problem, it's many things...from atmospheric composition to growing corn and raising cows, not just driving cars...
