After Sh4ne87 consumed a liter of Makers Mark and I killed a bottle of Fireball last night, getting up this morning was a bit hard. However, pops lit the fire under our asses and off to the Paulenskill we went. Temps were a bit chilly so that coupled with the fact we were still cross eyed, made for a vert pessimistic and angry ride to b-town.
We got out of the truck and I opened the tailgate to find my fly fishing rod and wading boots NOT there...So, I screamed a few colorful expletives, my dad reinforced the fact I was an idiot, and shane sat there and laughed. I took my dads camp shoes and was going to need to switch off rods with Shane...Normally we carry more rods than we know what to do with, but today was just an off day.
We went down, I had Sh4ne87 tie on a Olive WoolyBugger and we began...A half hour later, we both were about to call it quits and snap the fly rod in half. At this time, pops caught a beautiful rainbow accross the stream from us. However, we moved down around the bend and I hit 2 fish right away...Handed the rod to Sh4ne87 and BAM! He locks into a beautiful, big red side! We were suprised how well the fish fought despite the water temperature. Took a few minutes to get this fish in...This fish was a very special fish. THis fish ended Sh4nes87's 9month fishless streak
I now was the operator of the rod and I swung the hole a few more times to no avail...SO we headed up to the spot we call the "mountain hole" and I got 2 chunkers out of it...They fought great and again whacked the Olive Woolybugger with a vengence.
Getting late and about the time I needed to head back and pick up food for superbowl, we decided to make out way back down stream to my dad and head out... Ended the day with a half dozen fish...IN FEBRUARY no less....Was a great morning!
ps...my new SIMMS g4z waders are fucking incredible....IM in love. I may even like these more than beads.
pps. The New allen fly reel that Sh4ne87 has is really something... SOOO smooth, no start up inertia, and good looking...Never woulda thought you could get all that in a reel for that pricerange. Truly a nice piece!!!
