Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
Yesterday fished the musky, first time in a few years. Forgot what a nice stream it is, water level was good and clear. Saw some caddis, heavy at
times but not on the water. nothing rising and didn't see any hendrickson's either. Caught a bunch of rainbows and one nice brookie, all on bh...
Made my first trip up to the Catskills Saturday. Although it's an early spring there wasn't much blooming up there
everything still grey. Wanted to catch the end of the hendricksons before they were gone. Caught a good shad fly
hatch between the gusts of wind, but the fish wouldn't take any of...
Went to the Paramus Ramsey Outdoor Cabin Fever Saturday. The speakers were
great and the slide shows got me psyched to go fishing.
After listening to Aaron's spiel on Euro nymphing, I may try it myself this spring.
Prior to this I was anti-Euro, but it definitely is another tool for nymphing...
Fished for 3 1/2 days and had good time. A lot of guys, little water and sporadic hatches.
Caught my share of nice browns and even got one rainbow. I heard green drakes were
doing good on the EB, but I saw only a couple on the BK and one coffin fly ? Has anybody
seen a decent hatch on the BK...
Went up Friday, It was very warm and sunny. Checked out a lot of the pools, nothing
happening. When the evening came I went to my spot and nada, no evening hatches
at all. Moved over to the Willo and finally saw one fish rising to God knows what and
nailed him on a rusty spinner, a nice 15"...
Went up Tuesday to BK/Willo. Nice day, no crowds and the wind wasn't bad. There
was a decent hatch of hendricksons and blue quills. Got my only fish at the end of
the afternoon on a #18 blue quill. Good to back upstate.
So who is going out tomorrow and try and fly fish with opening day 24 hrs away.
I'm just glad from Saturday on, I can fish whenever and wherever.
I might just try the Ramapo/Pequannock in the afternoon.
Fished the Pequannock this past weekend. the lower river had decent flows due to
all of the rain lately. Caught 2 wild browns, one about 9" and one about 12" with really
good coloring and fins. The smaller one jumped 4 times clear of the water, amazing.
Lost another small one. Doesn't seem to be...
Went up to Roscoe on Thursday to beat the crowds of the weekend. Weather was warm
with overcast and some drizzle during the day. The rivers were still pretty high but were clear. Didn't see much hatching, small BWOs and some sulphurs. Fished mainly the upper
Willowemoc because the water level...
Does anybody know if you can park by the closed Red Rose Motel at the Beaverkill
and fish the pool below ?? Last year the parking lot was posted, but this year it's not.
I think Roscoe Campgrounds owns the property.
Fished one of the Croton Reservoir inlets yesterday for the first time. I stopped
on the way back from a job in Ct. The river I fished was the Cross and it was a nice looking
little C & R stream. There wasn't anything hatching though and didn't get any takes on my
nymphs. Finally ready to give...
Looking for motel to stay at next couple of weeks. Usually stayed at the old Red Rose, but their closed for remodelling. Where do any of you stay, Silver Fox, etc?
Thanks in advance
Gary
Fished the Ramapo after work Tuesday. Started around 4 pm and
fished til 6 pm lost 2 nymphing. The sun was really blazing so I took
a break and then got back to fishing after 7 pm. What a difference,
the sun was more or less off the water and the fishing improved.
I landed a rainbow, brown and...
Fished Saturday at the Beaverkill/Willowemoc, nice day with a lot
of caddis flying around but not on the water. Caught one small brown
in the fast water on a nymph, that was it. Talked to alot of guys that
said it had been slow, I guess this is the dead period before the March
Browns start up...
Finally made it up to the Catskills this past weekend. Stopped at Catskillflies and
bought myself a new Sage rod. I got the 5 wt/ 9 ft FLi and I really like it, it's got
a little more muscle than I was using. Anyway hit the river and got a 12" brown
in the fast water and then got a 19" brown on...
Went fishing Friday, Saturday and Sunday, each day the water got a little
easier to wade. Friday caught about a 3 lb rainbow breeder down below Britts
on a 14 copper john, he was big but fought like a log. Then went upstream and
caught a couple of 10"ers and a nice fighting 12" TU fall rainbow...
Got up to the BK on June 1 pm for a couple of days fishing, couldn't believe how low
the water was. Fished the evening hatch, which never landed on the water (yellow sallies)
and a random iso/drake/march brown. Zilch. Anyway next morning got up early and hit
the lower no-kill, lost a good size...
