    Pulaski in May/June

I am spending a week in Roscoe starting Memorial Day weekend and was thinking of maybe hitting the Salmon River for a day or two, only a 3 hour drive from Roscoe. Is there any action up there at that time of year ?

you might catch the tail end of the spring run of steelhead , if you like small mouth there is plenty of that to do and see about a lake charter . and shore fishing for browns .

After the winter those poor people just went through, I am wondering if you will still need snow shoes in June?

I was there last saturday for the first time, 3 steelys, but lost them all, snowing friday, saturday and sunday whatta terryble day , temp. was 30-35. I saw 5 guys on the river for like 2 hrs and not catching anything, I think they just gone for now, do they comeback before november?

I fished the Salmon in June once. Won't ever do that again. There's a reason why the 200+ car parking lots are all empty in June... Nothing but small chubs and tiny stocked browns and parr salmon. Plus, the mosquitos in the fly only section will eat you alive at that time. Not worth the drive, IMHO. Out on Lake Ontario we were catching smallies, though, so if you plan for alternatives, you can make it into a good trip. But the Salmon is definately a sleeper in June....

Add black flies to that. I wouldn't waste time going up there. If you have a week, just fish the Catskill rivers. Pick a map at any fly shop and you'll have over 10 rivers to fish to keep you busy. If anything, I would go up the the Adirondacks for couple days.

Speaking of snow, Catskills will get about a foot in next three days.

Yep its a sleeper alright. But spend enough time on the water and pay attention to rain forcast and you can find summer run fish. If your into fishing that river in the winter then summer time is a great time to do recon and learn the holes and pockets. A couple days on it in low low water is worth the drive just for the knowledge you can get. Wait till july and learn the spring holes and you will find a fish or two if you work hard.

The plus side is sometimes if youare very luck you get to see a 15lb steelhead feeding on tricos.

if you get there at the end of may you might be able to get some dropbacks in the lower river. you might be able to get some huge small mouth bass. if there are no bass or steelhead they stock broodstock atlantic salmon in the upper river. they are fun to get swinging flies.
