What's the worst that could happen?

mudbug201

loose loops, sink tips
I'm going to be near a nice piece of water upstate this weekend - a couple of days before it opens for trout fishing.

Not particularly worried about John Law. But would rather not harass spawners or do anything detrimental to the fish population.

Truth is, I don't actually know what the rationale is behind closing rivers and lakes to trout fishing for the winter. My sense is that it's to give the fish a break and protect them from bait fishermen who might otherwise whack 'em and stack 'em in the winter months. But I confess ignorance.

Any thoughts? Any reason not to wet a line a few days before the season opener?

p.s. Lostnlovinit you are the only other member on this ghost town of a forum right now, so I guess this is directed at you:)

In a word, spawning. Depending on water temps, it takes a long time for trout eggs to hatch and then the sack fry need to absorb their yolk sacks to become free swimmers. During that time, anglers can step on a lot of redds. But there is also some tradition to having the opener on April 1st. It's not possible to say which day is safe to trample our rivers for trout because of the various factors out of our control, but April 1 is safe and here in NJ, the Division uses March 15 for its wild trout streams when it comes to allowing firms like mine to work in the stream to protect wild trout for all TP waters. But remember that wild rainbows are not fall spawners like browns or brookies.....

Because Johnny Law likes to have control over your life......Go fish, poach, step on redds, kill the fish, be a non-conformist, send the Mexicans away, kill all the Muslims........vote TRUMP!!!!!!;)

Wait, neverminid....protect the fish, wait three more days, it will save them all, donate your hard earned money to TU, in fact, we should pay a TU tax to save the beloved trout, and make sure we have clean water for our grandkids, love your fellow man and your fellow fish...vote BERNIE!!!!!!;)

if you're near a nice piece of upstate trout water that doesnt open until the first, you're probably not that far from a year-round piece of trout water.

Whats the worst that could happen? 1. you fish
2. while you fish you drop your wallet and lose your credit cards and I.D.
3. you are caught fishing.
4. Bettle finds your wallet and makes a $10,000 donation to Hillary on your credit card.
5. You have no money for bail and no I.D. so are put in the Deposit Jail until they can identify you.
6. the computers is down so you have to spend the weekend in jail and end up being the love puppet of some toothless inbred.

I said the worst thing that could happen to me, not the best thing that could happen to you.

Good one. But you're not the only one who's getting Berned these days. Fairly certain my $10,000 (that alone is hilarious by the way) would go to fund the communist takeover of the whitehouse and the Vermontification of everything. Hill is way too rightwing for Beatle. (me as well, truth be told)

Very astute. The waters you mention are actually about 1000 yards away from one another. But I'm lazy and a creature of habit.

And, the proximity and similarity between said waterways really has me wondering why one is closed for four months while other is open year round.

The most ridiculous thing about these rules though is that they only prohibit "targeting" trout. So, as long as you can make a plausible argument that you are trying to catch something else (e.g. chubs), you are probably in the clear.

You realize that a common penalty for poaching (in addition to fines, community service, & etc) is ....

"barred from hunting, trapping or fishing anywhere in the United States for the next (judge inserts a number here) years "

as it should be.

But let's be real - I'm a mild mannered C&R fly fisherman who might be jumping the gun by a few days.

Plus, it's not like I'm hunting wild boar with the help of claymore mines, or picking off Bald Eagles with a scoped AR-15. Any game warden or park ranger would probably only need to check out my casting game for a couple of minutes to realize I'm no threat whatsoever to any aquatic species.

I guess I did ask what's the worst that could happen. A lifetime ban from fishing anywhere in the US would qualify.

Being white helps too

There's also the confiscation of tackle/equipment.
Borrow a car, and use a five dollar "garage sale" rod & reel.

Am I the only one that thinks WBDluver is recounting his past and not conjuring up a hypothetical?

MB go and fish. If anyone has a problem with innocent stretching of the <strike>Laws</strike> <strike>Rules</strike> Suggested guidelines . Just respond No Habla. You will be treated with the same respect as an <strike>Illegal immigrant undocumented migrant </strike> Non-registered guest . You won’t have any problem.

I guess I got too used to just watching this site and getting all my entertainment from the boob squad to ever post much. Alas, those days are over and perhaps I will actually have to contribute....:crap:

IMO, Id wait or find year round water....

I think a good fishing video series could be made about the Ferguson Fish and Game Warden...

Fishing while black would be the crime.

The Warden would notice a black fisherman, and pull a gun on him for wearing felt soles, or using a treble hook in a whites only, fly fishing zone.

Every episode would end with "Hands up, don't shoot!"

My apologies to all of NEFF.... I mention boobs and beetle returns with totally unrelated BS rhetoric...

I'm going to have to defend The Escarabajo de Oro on this one, he wasn't the one that brought up the race card in this thread. And I think that he may have an idea for an alternative Northwood Justice show.
