Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

What's everyone tying right now?

I realize most people do their tying in the winter but I slacked off. Just sat down and was hoping for some suggestions on what patterns are going to be effective for the next week or so? Any advice would be appreciated since I only know a few patterns.

Thanks in advance!

Hendricksons, Paraleps. I have a whole shit-load of them that I tied. Duns, emergers, spinners, etc. Waiting for the rivers in the Catskills to come down to a level that won't wash me into the Atlantic so I can go justify the effort and time of tying them.

i havent been tying anything for the up coming weeks, but more for june when i plan to head on my annual fly fishing trip. i have been tying up some pheasant tale wet flys, some other wet flys, been tying some caddis and some generic drys.

My father has been pounding the fish in the catskills, despite the high water...A fair weather fisherman he is not... He also told me once, "You got to be in in it, to win it."

E,

Buggers are a staple..But now, emergers both in march brown, BWO, and Caddis...Also, all the generic bead heads...

DONT FORGET THE Rs2 accompanied by a BHFBPT!!!

Two of my all time favourite patterns....

Fran Betters USUAL pattern, and

More of my "Smoky Mountain Cahill" patterns.

I also purchased a few of Roger Lowe's fly patterns while down south, and his tying book
that I would like to see how they work out for me this spring and summer.

So I will try my hand at a Lowe's Hazel Creek, Lowe's Rattler, Lowe's Mayfly Drake Yellow and Orange to start.

I've been tying soft hackle hendrickson nymphs. The nice thing about them is you can fish them deep under split shot or on a tandem rig with an anchor fly or you can fish them as emergers if the fish start rising, just put some floatant on them and there's no need to change flies. At the end of the drift lift your rod tip and strip in a little bit of line.

Long live fran....The people who took over his shop are goinga great job. Some of his custom rods are still for sale...

Several orders of spey flies and a bunch of Carrie Stevens style streamers for an upcoming book. Also some march browns and caddis patterns for myself.

Last night I was tying partridge and orange soft hackles. Starting fishing them a few years ago, and wouldn't be without them.

I have been getting ready for my trip to the Battenkill. I have been tying Green Drakes,Golden Drakes, Light Cahills, BWOs And assortment of Caddis Flies. And I will probably still scratch my head because of those wily natives.

I only tie emergency replacements in the Spring, but for NJ/NY/PA I would tie up some Fluttering Caddis and Sulphur dries, Partridge/Orange and Tups soft hackles, and some Copperhead Nymphs 14-18. Ask next week and I will have some different suggestions.
