USGS Rivers

Rivers are now separated by state. Please let me know if you want other rivers added to the state they reside in.

Can you add The South Branch of The Raritan to New Jersey?
Yep... I accidentally took it out. Now maybe some can help me out. I'm not sure of the CFS for the listed NJ rivers. I've set water temp thresholds. anything above 70 degrees will be red. I'm working on making a caution zone color as well.

If you look at the USGS for NJ, all of the links can be clicked and they will take you to an information page about the river or simply threads on this site with the river names as key words.

Something's wrong.
The Ramapo @ Mahwah gauge doesn't record temperature (I checked the USGS site to refresh memory).
Even so, I'm pretty sure it's over 32 F
At least you got the flow right :)

Suspicious number of NJ streams all @ 32 F ????
The ones not @ 32 F, look unreasonably high for this time of year.

BTW: The screenshot you posted Wednesday, looks a lot more realistic. I'd be suspicious of any of the more recent tweaks.

The temp gauge in High Bridge hasn't worked for at least a year. I regularly check the USGS site...

Here is the issue. I can only report on what's provided by the USGS site. If the temps are being reported by USGS incorrectly, I can't really know... (I can but it's a pain in the ass to exclude various sites for reporting the water temp at 32f. We'll just have to assume the if a stream is coming back with an unreasonable number than it would be unreasonable to accept that number for anything other than a false reporting by USGS. I suppose I can exclude all streams that are reporting 32f.

To the best of my knowledge, The USGS Ramapo @ Mahwah page never reported temperature.
Can't help but wonder if nothing is being misinterpreted as zero (0 C=32 F).

Neither theory explains the more realistic screenshot in the first post of this topic

There are only a couple of NJ streams that have a temperature reading. The Pequannock River at Oak Ridge outlet, Flat Brook, don't think there are any others. When you are pulling in that data, the others should read 0, but if they read 32 then that is also a default reading for no reading. I contacted the USGS when they stopped reporting the S Branch, that reading came off an array of equipment that had chlorophyll and stuff like that, and was there for a period of time as a monitoring project, and when it came out, the temp sensor was part of the package. They were very nice, told me they had many inquiries about it including TU, and were trying to help but the equipment they had used was now somewhere else doing the same thing. Too bad for me, it was good to know before I drove up there from S Jersey when it got warm.

Yep... I'm just starting to find that out now. I'm working on simply putting a "N/A" next to temps that are below 32 degrees.

I agree... The water temps are essential for me too. I like to know where I can and where I probably shouldn't fish. I drive a long way to fish so this is important.
