Well Guys,
After careful dilberation and input by CT and Tom (WBLUVER), I pulled the trigger on a boat.
Its a catchercraft 2 man pontoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is a little background.
A few weeks ago I began talking with Tom and I was set on purchasing on Skookum Steelheader 2 (pontoon). Tom and I were conversing with Jenn, the lovely owner of Skookum for days, nailing down some details and what not. Well, before we pulled the trigger, as I was ordering it through Tom, Tom comes to find out out all the stuff on their webpage that they said is INCLUDED, is NOT. I had a set budget I could spend and it was quickly surpassed. The Oars are not included which Jenn informed me they would be anywhere from 300-800 dollars. The anchor system was not included and that was another 250.00. The mesh expanded steel was absurdly priced at 250 for (2) floors. So quickly, BESIDES the main purchase of the BOAT, it was another 1k+ on TOP of that $3,500...hmmm
So, I was contacted by Dave, co-owner of catchercraft boats(as I put up a thread about pontoon boats on Washington FF Forums). Turns out, Ken Rambow, who is NOW the frame builder at catchercraft boats, WAS the frame designer/builder for Skookum up until this past december! (SWEEEEEET!) So, he contacted me and gave me the specs of his boats. Turns out, both Skookum Boats AND Catchercraft boats are virtually IDENTICAL...However, the delux anchor system from catchercraft acts as another cooler storage or a platform to mount a 3rd seat!!!!!! The delux anchor system from Skookum is only a pulley. lol. The frame also has a drop of 11'' rather than 9'' on Skookums boats for additional leg comfort
...
So, he gave me a price I could NOT refuse... His price INCLUDED!!!!!: Delux Anchor System(250.00), 9 foot premium break down OARS(500.00) (Skookum could only get 7.5 oars), electric/gas motor mount(250.00), Lean bar, lean bar mounts for oarsman module if I float alone and want to take front module off, and heavy duty/stud resistant floor boards. His price SHIPPED was less than what skookum wanted for their bare-bones boat UNSHIPPED...
So, I have ordered the boat and it will be here in a few weeks, once I move into my new place. I could NOT pass it up. And why not buy from the company who's builder is one of the best in the industry?!!! This boat has a load capacity of 1,500lbs and is rated for Class V!!!!!
Attached is a pic of the boat. Its the EXACT model except im getting grey 'toons and fold down seats! And look at that delux anchor system in the rear. Its beefy, sexy, and like I said, serves multiple functions!!!! I can not WAIT!
The only thing I need to do is customize some rod holders.
I can not WAIT to get this boat. I will now be fishing more than I ever was (and I was fishing so much my girldfriend packed up and left, hahaha). I will be hitting the deerfield, housie and Salmon River on a regular basis. ESPECIALLY this fall, the Salmon River will be floated by me weekly
STEELHEAD WATCH OUT!!!!
Taking reservations now
Tight Lines all!
ps. Chris Tobias, I know you are strongly set on Skookum, however I would strongly suggest you check out catchercraftboats...They are the same boat, KEN is now the builder for them, and they are cheaper. Ken can also do any custom work you may want...
I would also like to thank Tom for being so accomodating for me. He knows why I had to back out and understands. The price just kept soaring! Tom, beers on me when we meet up on the Upper D
