I post this every year..this fly in the spring (all spring) and summer and fall, is nothing but perfect.....it has caught more fish than any other fly I fish....it can be fished in the film as an emerger, which is what is was meant to be, or it can be dead drifted and swung, get a bunch of takes "on the dangle"....not enough people around here fish it, in fact someone I know at Shannon's turns his nose up at it...
I can't say enough, if the caddis are hatching it WILL catch fish...if they aren't you also have a chance, I have caught fish on it in the dead of winter......it is candy!!!!

Yes, I learned to tie this from that video, and from Mr. Grobert himself....the touch dub is key!!!!!! I can't believe more people in the east don't fish it....as it is a Blue Ribbon Fly......thanks Mr. Matthews!

I can't tie a Lafontaine, so I use these.....

It's by far my most productive caddis emerger pattern the last 15-20 years, and easier to tie than the LaFontaine. Imitates the grannoms and ginger/cinnamon caddis emergers very well and often is more productive than an adult pattern during the emergence.

Don't toss your LaFontaine sparkle pupae or emergers though, they do have their place in the fly box.

Just because some idiot In New Jersey cant tie a La Fontaine emerger doesn't mean you should throw all your other patterns out.....

I love this fly. Discovered it here two years ago. Fun to tie. It catches fish everywhere, in riffles, pools, in the dark. I get a lot of takes on the swing or lifting at the end of the drift. Thanks for reposting. Gotta tie a fresh batch.

I tie the body green, tan or brown,.....I like to use natural hare on the head...but all I had was olive.....it doesn't seem to matter much what color. The fish eat them anyway.....it should do an experiment and try odd colors like purple red or pink the see what happens..

The trailing shuck or the wing?....I have tied the body in apple green, but always the shuck in copper (in fact BRF has just came up with the "perfect" color for them)..and always the wing in white...but I'm open for options if they work....

It was the shuck. I had white zlon and used an artists marker to turn it green. I think it was because of the apple caddis that made me do it.

Yeah I tied like 6 of these last night. Definitely need to work on the touch dubbing thing, but I found that if I just overdid it with shitty touch-dubbing, I could thin it out with my fingers after the fact and get a pretty decent result. Looks buggy. Thanks for inventing this pattern LU.
