I’m primarily a bluegill fisherman. I find trout to be an inferior species. I have little respect for those anglers that target swill pescado like the trout -- this is why I only stalk trout in the dead of winter, when I am less likely to be spotted committing these impieties.

The water finds me on the coldest and windiest days, peering through my polarized groucho glasses, catching trout after trout in disgust.

Last monday was no exception. I took seven fish to hand, including one pretty fat holdover of about 15 inches. My roommate was around gathering supplies for an art project and he snapped some pictures of me and my 5 month-old puppy Jack.

Whats with the backpack? Are you going camping after fishing? Are you trying to imitate the hipsters from the Drake magazine? Not even MacFly has a backpack and he has every piece of flyfishing gear known to man. We will have none of that here.
 
I was cool with everything...until I saw the BILL DANCE hook keeper wrapped around the fore grip HAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The backpack is probably filled with PBR, which is the hipster beer du jour. however, since he's from Brooklyn (hipster strike 2), all will be forgiven if its filled with Six Point.

Those farm-raised bows are delicious with some white wine and a dijon / dill reduction.

I admire how you naively continue to post fishing reports on this site, which is primarily devoted to gay soft porn, wikipedia/global warming debunking, DIY bucket caddy prototypes, and metrosexual fishing fashion. Keep up the good work.

I'm a shameless hipster and I drink Six Point like Mac drinks Metamucil.

Very few beers out there are safe from hipster colonization. At this point, things have come full circle and PBR might be the safest bet.

Oh, actually, nevermind. Schlitz is probably safer. That stuff's undrinkable, no matter how ironic your taste buds are.
 
Metamucil is for wimps. I eat pure psyllium husks:)

yeah my sister got me that 'hook keeper' thing for christmas and I wanted her to see that I was using it. kinda like it though.

the duluth pack is sexy and you guys are all jealous of my chic hipster dry goods.

hmm... IMO either one makes you a bit of a d-bag, especially if your bandana has some kind of lame brook trout pattern on it, and cost you $40. Do you want to look vaguely middle-eastern, even though you're a struggling performance artist from Wisconsin who pours lattes for a living? Or are you basically a frat boy who wants to look like you just robbed a bank in Paco, Texas? No right answer here. Best move on.

I prefer to fly fish in an Ass-Hat full body fishing burka. Best sun protection you can find. Pair it with Beetle's fishing diaper and you're ready for a long day on the water.

Red and blue bandanas only. Picked up my Tight Lines ball cap last night, with the curved brim of course. I'll have my coffee black, and at 60, a little old to to relive my frat years.
Where can I get a Beetle diaper? Also something a 60ish person should be looking into.

Brian, I sure hope you have a lot more than 10 years. Although maybe going back to the capitalist grind may start aging you quicker.

That spot in the photos looks an awful lot like the bend behind the new Tri County fire station as well - but no one outside of Hackettstown fishes there and even then the pressure isn't what it used to be. BTW, there is a nice abandoned 8' dinghy back there if someone wants to pick it up. Came down in one of the floods and it is in great shape.

I also agree that the sunnie (no bluegills - an introduced species in NJ BTW) fishing in the Musky can be better than the trout. The large colorful redbreast sunfish and the little willing pumpkinseeds provide good action for native species that fight hard, take dry flies, and the larger redbreast sunnies can be challenging while the littler ones are great to get kids/grandkids started. Go sunfish.

Finally, the great R&V debate. PBR and Schmidt's are the beers of us fat old men. How they hell did they get appropriated by women and hipsters? Is nothing sacred? Cheap and old school taste are the traditional values of us smelly old retired fishermen. How come our chapter president thinks PBR is a chick beer? Just say no to hip scarves and packs to spots 200 yds away from the parking spot; keep the St Croix rod and the dog.

I know it is the S bend in Point Mountain. The big boulder above the dog in photo # 5 is going to be moved into a new weir once we get the permit in hand. And that pool he is fishing in in the same photo will be 8' deep when we are done. But I hear you about the water behind the new Tri County fire house. Funny, but only us old timers know that fire house as 'new". My first trip to fish the river was to the "old" fire house when it was still there.

On the Scmidts and PBR front, Schmidts was one of the first beers I drank as a teen because my buddy's dad would buy them for us :) And for whatever reason, PBR was the beer of choice at college in Ithaca, NY back in the day. Not sure if it was when you were there a few years or so before me?
