Stillwater Patterns

After two busy weeks, I'm finally planning on doing some still water fishing/camping. Most likely on a pond in the Catskills or Adirondack's. I've hit a heavy Hex hatch on a small pond in the ADK's and had some pretty good fishing.. Really looking forward to going back this year.

Anyways... What's your favorite pond pounding pattern and what makes it significantly superior?

Not looking for your cookie cutter Cahill's or drab Elk Hair Caddis'. Gimme something good to work with!

I like a damselfly nymph. Easy to tie and generally foung in most stillwater systems.

How bout chironomids? I've only chucked em at LM, crappie and sunfish but they've never refused.

UV coated, they're hard as nails n last forever.

I actually fish chironomids a lot when on stillwater, especially on the nyc resivors and I tell you what, they really kick ass.

hey johnny, I've only fished for warm water species with poppers. Do trout respond to them aswell?

When its dark out, trout pound the hell out of poppers. It's really amazing. Yes, this reply is over 3 months late.

I may have to try that one day. I like to pound the banks with streamers at midnight. Never thought to use a popper though.

I dont actually pop the poppers. I just cast and slowly drag them back in on top. Trout of all sizes will strike, reminds me of bluegill fishing. Except it's dark and they are trout.

When I fish this one beaver pond, I'll cast out a dry and if I don't get any hits within like 30 secs, I'll slowly strip the fly underwater. Most of the time I get a fish to hit it when I do this.

Ill lll have to try poppers there next year.
