Steelhead Staples...

Been slowly trying to round out the steelhead box before the up coming season. Decided to tie some of my staple tube flies on shanks with a little extra flash. Still trying to decide if the hanks hold better then tubes on these styles of patterns.

Although some purists look down on these style flies they work are cheap to tie and easy to cast.

Fin

I think the stiffer wire on the shanks that secures the hook might get a better hook set then the junction tubing on tubes. I have noticed a better landing ratio on shanks than tubes... But not too much.

Fished for four days on the Slammin. Decent action despite the difficult conditions (low water bright sun). A size 3 lady caroline produced one fish for me along with some tugs. With that said I would say that I have caught close to 90 % of my fish in November on Slammin in the past six years on that fly.

Decided to go smaller then normal and tied a black bear red butt (size six) in the hotel room Tuesday night. Wednesday evening I tried fishing the BBGB and immediately had a solid grab on the pattern and also lost a beast of a Chromer on that fly in a slow pool.

Just spent three days up there. Mostly worked with the kids but managed to swing a bunch too. I hadn't tied shit and only had a few Black Gordon Marabou's in my box and they all got donated without so much as a tug. Buddy landed three and had 5 hook ups for the weekend, he really worked for em though.

This weekend was pretty crowded up there. Headed back up tomorrow night for a couple weeks with a few trips back and forth to shuttle the kids up on the weekends.

You get a decent amount of vaca days, huh?

7 weeks:thumb:

Flea, I swung from dark to dark on Tue, Wed and Thur. The only fly to get bit was the one I tied you for the swap. Had one solid take each day but that was it, nothing landed.

Donated quite a few of those things to the river and trees:down:

Broke down this morning and landed a few on beads before coming home for the weekend. Should be back up Sun night or Mon morning.
