Special non-stocking signs for upper SBR (picture)

I'm getting some help from some members here to post signs on the upper SBR and a bunch of trout production (TP) streams that the NJ Division is not stocking this year due to the disease at the Pequest hatchery. Here's a picture of the SBR signs we'll be putting up later today from the KLG no-kill up to Budd Lake. The other streams have the same signs with their specific streams listed in place of the SBR, obviously. Thought some of you might be interested in what they say.

I understand Barleywine reached out to you in regards to the Pequannock. I posted the Pequannock signs on Friday. :)
I ran into a CO, or should I say he ran into me. He had the signs for the TCA. I wasn't sure what to do in the TCA area so I placed the no stocking signs underneath the TCA signs the CO posted. Good luck on the south branch.

What other rivers do you have? Do you know who has the Wanaque?

Great, Pete. Yes, the lower Wanaque needs to be posted. In fact, here's a list of TP streams and lakes/ponds that drain into them that are not being stocked that the Division is looking for help posting with these special signs. If anyone here can help, reply here or shoot me a PM and I'll work something out with the Division.

Streams:

  • Franklin Pond Creek
  • Hakihokake Creek
  • India Brook
  • Little Flat Brook
  • Peapack Brook
  • Trout Brook (Middleville)
  • Wanaque River - lower
  • Whippany River

Directly connected to TP streams:

  • Barbours Pond
  • Blue Mtn. Lake
  • Beaver Brook (Morris)
  • Drakes Brook (I'll probably do this as it's 2 miles from my house)
  • Green Turtle Pond
  • Furnace Lake
  • Hibernia Brook (think this is covered by Hacklebarney TU)
  • Passaic River - White Bridge Rd. to rt. 24 bridge, Chatham Borough
  • Pond Brook
  • Russia Brook
  • Saddle River (Upper/Lower)
  • Silver Lake (Sussex)
  • Speedwell Lake
  • Stony Lake

If you don't see any streams you know won't be stocked such as the upper SBR, that's because it is already done or being done.

I guess I'll take the Wanaque as well. I will contact Lisa directly and let her know.

Pete, just to ease any confusion until this all gets sorted out, please work through Shawn Crouse for now. I'm afraid we'll have too many volunteers calling too many Division staffers and confuse everyone. Text me if you need the #, but he's out of the Lebanon Lab facility.

I'll take the saddle if you need me.

I would have stopped the sign at "Trout will not be stocked here."

Thanks tompg. I like that they took the extra step to encourage C&R myself. One other criticism I hear via Facebook is that there is no mention of "wild trout", just trout in general. That doesn't bother me too much, but it did another friend. At least the Division is doing what it can given a tough situation.

My only criticism of the sign is: no trout stocked should have been then headline instead of: attention anglers :D
