Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

South Branch Outfitters (Formerly, Shannon's Fly & Tackle)

Just noticed (Yeah, I'm a little slow at times) that Shannon's has changed its name to, "South Branch Outfitters".

The "Meet The Team" page includes the phrase, "Past, Present, and Future", which reminds me of, Professor Marvel. I think all of you here know who, Professor Marvel was. :)

Hopefully the crystal ball will help them tell people where the fish are!

I wish Abraham and Lindsey the best with their new business located on the SBR!

They've done a nice job with their store, went in there about a month and a half ago on my way home from north Jersey. I wish them good times with the business too.

You should see the new fly display box built by that net building guy....he's buddies wuth Freddy, it is really a great job!

Anyone know what happened to the NJ Trout web site?

NJTrout hasn't been around for years. The owner changed the name to TriStateTrout or something like that. That being said, Denis Ferfecki, passed away years ago. There is another site, www.gardenstatetrout.com. They have a nice crowd over there but they aren't exclusive to fly fishing.

It is Garden State Trout thst is being discussed and has been suspended

GardenStateTrout has been down/suspended for two days.
I've been getting the impression that Tom Twism's life got a lot more complicated than it was when he started the site, and he's been neglecting it.

Appointing forum Admins & Mods, doesn't solve this kind of problem.

Ohhhhh.... I see now. I had an account there but I guess because I don't log on so often, my account is in limbo (Probably in an inactive users group or something like that). I know there was 1 forum that you couldn't see unless you were logged on (Not sure if that's still a thing over there), but there were also posts there that I would have liked to reply to. I could have registered for a new account but whatever...

I monitored GST now and then for years, not signing up because I moved to South Jersey some time ago and shifted to saltwater. Approaching retirement, I'm gearing back up for trout and registered for that site about a week ago. After a few days of waiting for approval I started seeing the "site suspended" message. I thought I broke it!!!!😱 . Anyway, I've since discovered this place and here I is. So, hello all!

Welcome aboard, hope you find everything you need here or can offer something for others of course. :)

Let me know if you're looking for anything specific and I'll do my best to try to help.

Had contact with Tom, he is aware of it, but has not had time to look into it.

Thank you sir. May have some questions as I catch up. Feel a little like Rip Van Winkle. My home stream and the one I caught my first trout on a fly in is now under the Monksville Reservoir. My Fenwick glass rod and Medalist reel (both from Paterson Rod & Gun) seem a little dated. I picked up a Reddington rod and reel to take its place for now and a Regal vise to replace the Thompson Model A. Seems the hooks have grown smaller and my fingers fatter but I'll fill a fly box soon enough, hoping a few will pass muster.

When I last fished I was gravitating towards tributaries flowing into the rivers most others fished. If I couldn't jump over it, it was starting to get to big for me. That's still where my heart is, much preferring to gently slip a 6 inch brookie back into the water over putting a 16 inch rainbow into the creel. I imagine I'll still chase the big boys now and then. Just looking forward to being back at it.

I grew up in Franklin Lakes and used to go Paterson Rod and Gun for everything just about. They had the best stuff and what you needed. I still have several things I got there in the 70's. Jimmy and Louie Salvato, Joan Salvato Wullf's brothers, and their dad. It was an institution.

Still use my 4 piece Fenwick, bought another last week. Both are convertible spin/fly pack rods, perfect for canoe trips.

Yeppers. Hoping to put my papers in soon and be out before year's end.
Congrats, you will love it. (y) I believe we met some time ago at Wells Mills, used to hang out with McLain and Fred.

Indeed! Beside fishing tackle, I still have a Colt Detective Special and an Ithaca 37 I bought there. I peddled my bike from Paterson to their Hawthorne store when they moved there, but my grandfather brought me as a younger kid to the Paterson store downtown. He knew the old man. They had a hardware cloth cylinder on the register counter with loose fishing plugs hanging on it. I got to pick one each time we visited. Pretty sure I still have a few of them.

I have fond memories of Fred and Pete arguing who was a worse driver around the time Fred started chauffeuring him around. I was given a small metal cylinder containing some of Fred's ashes by his kids at his memorial service. We were told to either keep it or scatter them somewhere we spent time with Fred. I scattered mine walking distance from home, on Great Bay WMA. We are in the process of hiring one of Fred's birding disciples right now. God help us!

I'd say it was a tie. I aged every time I was in a car with them; some great stories. :)

German G, do you remember the stuffed dogs on the shelf behind the counter? I think there was a shorthair and maybe an English Setter

I don't remember that, but I was pretty young then and only recall bits and pieces of going there. A place I remember much better, because I drove there myself when I got my license, was Reed Tackle. I think I still have a few cards of Chenille with their name on it.

There was a big wide shelf behind the counters on both sides, probably 3' across, and maybe 10' in the air. They had two of their (previous) hunting dogs, along with various game animals up there mounted.
