I want to give the trout a rest but i dont want to put the fly rod down i was just wondering if the N/B of the raritan by 202 and 22 section would be a good starting point for fishing for smallmouth thanks to all in advance

Both the NB and SB have great smallie fishing all along their lengths. Best bet to get good coverage is via canoe.

I used to fish for SMB on the SB Raritan a lot during the last few summers, action picks up below Clinton. Walk a lot and cast a lot and you'll be able to hook up some nice ones. The entire length down to Duke Island Park is easily accesible, you just need to pick up a map and explore.

I also fished the NB in North Branch Park/fairgrounds just off 202. Again, walk and explore (head from the upper parking lot upstream along the river, there are some really nice holes).

Also, Duke Island has some smallies if you know where to look for.

But by far the best SMB action is on the Big D...

thanks guys for all the info well i did just that bought a map of the western and northern nj counties and spent the entire day poking around from spot to spot and casting and walking the numbers were there but not much in the way of size but i was still amazed how they felt on my 4 wt sage. but my exploring has just begun.
