Salmon River Report 2008

Gotta agree with CDog, looks like the tailout of the wall hole. Good fishing.

Here's a pic of me standing in the tailout of the Wall hole. Looks very similar to your pic, except that yours was taken when the river was up and I'm not in it.

Sorry for the shameless showing off me with a Steelie. Caught on a #12 Oregon Cheese egg pattern with my trusty 10' 7/8wt Redington fly rod with a G Loomis Ventura 7 fly reel.

Can't believe you fell for it..

Now we ALL KNOW your good fishing spots!

Yes, I see the small island. If you asked me yesterday, I would have sworn I never fished the Wall Hole. I guess I had.

So you can pick a few out as your reward.

You too TK.. don't want to listen to you all fall, "You like CD better than me.."

Now that you mention it...that was a secret spot. Sorry, TK...didn't mean to give it away.

None of those eggs are the right pattern. You're gonna have to tie some more.

In addition to being Geography Challenged, I have never been very good at fish photos. I either just catch the flipping of the tail as the trout fees for its very existence, being way out of focus... (I since learned the camera has a macro), the fish's top half in the frame, or lost the sucker while fiddling for the foolish camera.

So looking at ProudDog holding that Bright Chrome Steelhead... in the tail out of the WALL HOLE...

I cannot but marvel at how still and calm the fish is. I have turned fish over because I believe they become disoriented and settle down when removing deep set hooks.

But this Steelhead looks.. numb.

At first I thought it might be a stuffed fish. We all know the people who take the mounted fish they have hanging in their den, off the wall and bring it on every fishing trip, so when they catch nothing, they just take photos of themselves holding it on this stream or that stream.

But we all know HonestDog on this board. Not his style.

So there had to be a plausible reason for it.

Look closely at the photo, what do you see drifting away behind PhotoDog???

Here ya go... have at it.

I know you, you'll pitch a bitch...

Where the TMC 2457BL's.....

TMC 2487's, just make do with these ok...

If you ain't got the 2457BL then why bother! I'll just use sponge on a 3/0 hook.

Corndog:

When the glo-bug gets wet, it is so fine it should blend right in for a nice vail.

The Oregon Cheese colour just doesn't come out right when photographed.

That's the Coho pattern I use, minus the crystal flash tail. When I see cohos zipping by in front of me I can't tie one on fast enough. I either deaddrift them under a float or just natural in the current. Maybe 2 bb shot at the most. No cannon balls necessary.

Now if klg didn't just do half the job yesterday.. can you imagine how nice this photo would look like after he photo shop'd it!!???

I know.. I know.. he'll say something attempting to be smart like.. why don't you get photo shop and do it...

I'll just have to respond, I don't need to, I have you....

Somehow I completely missed this attack on my steelhead fishing abilities and my honesty. Thanks AK...you're a real pal!

Actually, I was standing there holding a carp (DF's favorite fish) and I got KLG to photoshop a steelie into the pic.

Here's the secret to good fishy pics. Hold the fish in the water until your camera man/woman/person is ready and aiming the camera at you. Have them test their position with the camera. Sun glare, shade on the fish or your face, etc. Then tell them to get ready, and lift the fish quickly into position before he/she (a he in this case) realizes they've been taken out of the water, and snap the pic. It usually takes the fish about 5 seconds to realize it's out of the water and starts to wiggle.

As for that stick floating by...that's my fly rod. I was using a 46wt that day. A good tool to have on the SR when guys try to move into your spot while you're getting your picture taken.

Douglaston Salmon Run 2008/2009 Season

This evening I have good news.

The Douglaston Salmon Run has offered me a 2008/2009 seasonal pass.

I cannot tell you how happy I am at this moment.

Last year I spent a total of 48 nights at my place in Pineville, while fishing the Salmon River.

Today, I aim to exceed that number this coming year.

I am happy beyond description.
