Round Valley

A Polinger

Just finished a River Runs Through it!
Has any one hit Round Valley? I was there last month and I did not get a hit on the fly, everything was still deep. I hope to get back out there soon and a lot this summer with my boat.

Yeah, I went up there memorial day weekend. The park rangers were not allowing anyone in without a fishing license or launch permit into the boat ramp areas. It's about time!

I left the fly rod at home figuring the surface temp would be much too warm for trout. Indeed, surface temps were pretty high - 76 degrees or so, and the bass were mostly done spawning. The few beds I saw still with fish on them also had obvious evidence of recent pummelling by bass anglers.

The water was crystal clear as usual, with good visibility to 25 feet or so. I saw a few monster bass - one was probably around 8 pounds - cruising at the 10 foot mark with the bottom at about 14'

I did get a rock bass on a swimbait. Greedy little #@%ers!

Thanks for the info. I will be going out there on Sun. I will let you know how I do.

I went out on Sun, we got there late around 1. There were a few boats out I was thinking there were going to be more. Went to the far side I had some small bass following a firetiger fly I tied but nothing was taking it. All and all bad day fishing but great day on the water.

I have a love/hate relationship with RVR. When it's off, it is OFF. But there are times, especially at night in the summer, when the big bass put the feed bag on, and it is just freakin' incredible.

It does seem to be more off than on though in that regard.

I've seen huge browns swimming in there, but have yet to land one. On more than one occasion I've seen cruising browns that would crush the state record.

I missed the late spring trout activity this year because of my work schedule, but I can wait until fall. The surface temps are just too warm for trout fishing during the summer.
