Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

river carp

If it will take a fly, I'll throw one to it!
Anybody have a lot of experience catching carp? I'm in Mercer County and trying to figure out places and techniques for hooking into these pigs once the water is too warm for the trout. Is it kinda like fishing for reds? Should I use a streamer? I was thinking olive buggers on a 6 wt. cast beyond teh fish and stripped back to it.

Carp like Mullberries, go find some trees... Passaic River, Saddle River to name a couple... I never flyfished them much. Rochelle Park - Saddle River.

Mulberries used to be the bait of choice when I used to fish with my friends when we were kids. Lodi has tons of carp right behind the police station. Plenty of mulberry trees around. If I were fishing it nowadays, I'd probably tie up a few sucker spawn patterns in varying colors in a size 16 or 18.

Here's a good link to other patterns you can use for carp.

Am I insane to use a 5/6 wt? Its a fly logic FLO. I thought I'd take a flyer on the company and see what their product was like. I paired it with an FLA 567 reel and put rio 5 wt. clouser line on it. I can't decide if I love it or hate it. I think part of the problem might be that the clouser line is for big water and when i hate it I'm on small water. Has anyone else used their rods? Perhaps I should be posting this question elsewhere. I mean they definitely leave a lot to be desired in terms of looks, but i got it as a bas/panfish/carp rod, so i don't really care how it looks. I just can't decide if its a noodle with no accuracy or if its just me.
