Quick photo posting tutorial

First, since this site is privately owned, there is a limit of disk space in which I can afford to pay for. My limit is your limit. Uploads that are too large in file size will be terminated. There are other options though, and I'll speak about them a bit more later. Since it's pretty late and I have to wake up in a little bit, I'm going to stop now and I'll continue on with this hopefully tomorrow.

Just one thing... If you have questions as to anything I've included here, please ask. If you don't ask, I won't know you don't know how to use something, and that doesn't do anybody any good. Ask Questions!!!

At any time during this brief tutorial, you can click on any of the images to enlarge them.

[multipage=Upload using Photopost]
You can click any of these diagrams at any time to enlarge them.

[coverattach=1] The first option is our photopost software. It's very easy to upload pictures with photopost. As a matter of fact, if you take a look on the front page in the center column, you'll see the "Site Navigation" menu. Within this menu, there is a hotlink under the photography section that says, "Upload Pictures". Click on "Upload Pictures" and you'll be presented with the following upload screen.

[coverattach=3]Step 2 - Using the drop down menu, choose the category to upload to. For example, if you have a mayfly nymph, select "Nymph's". If you have a trout picture or general fly fishing pic, select that option.

.
[coverattach=2]Step3 - This should be self explainatory... There are 3 "Browse" buttons. click the browse button and select the path on your home computer to upload up to 3 photo's from.

Step4 - Enter a title for your photo in the box after the 3 upload boxes.

Step5 - Keywords - These are short words or small groups of words. For example, Say you are uploading a Hendrickson spinner. You might want to put something in the keyword box like so: Hendrickson, spinner, mayfly, red quill, subvaria, etc... This way when people search for anything that matches your keywords, your photo will be displayed.

Finally, click "Upload/Submit". Thats it! Your photo will be displayed on the front page here:[coverattach=4]

.
[multipage=Uploading Photo's to a thread][coverattach=5]This is a simple one. When you start a new thread or reply to an existing one, you are taken to the "Post New Thread" screen. Simply type your message into the provided box then scroll down to the "Additional Options" section and locate the "Manage Attachments" button. Click on that and a screen will come up with "Browse" buttons. As indicated in the photo, you can upload up to 5 pictures at one time. Note the file sizes in the key. Example (jpg = 293.0kb) means that your file size should not be larger than that. If it is, your files will not come through. I typically make my photo's around 100-150k. As you can see, the quality is pretty damn good.

[coverattach=6]After selecting your photo's, click the "Upload" button and wait until it's finished.

.
[multipage=Last Option - Photo Bucket][coverattach=7]Again, locate the "Additional Options box. Locate "Display the upload form from Photobucket". Click it and login. Then select the image and click the IMG tag. This should copy the URL into your computers clip board. Simply scroll back up to the window your posting your message in and hit, "CTRL-V". That will paste the link into the window.

Click "Save" to post your thread!

Question, please feel free to ask.

Dennis,
I have a photobucket account now and when I go to the screen to access my account, it does not appear as yours does in the tutorial. I am logged into the account when I go to the photobucket website. I know I'm being a pain, this is not as easy as you make it seem to be. Some of us are challenged in the computer world.

Hi Rich,

Can you email me a screen shot of what you see when you click the photobucket thing? I'd like to see what you see.

Screen shot: Get to the problemed screen. Press "ALT-PRTSCN" (That's alt + Print screen). That will copy only this window into your clipboard.

Next, go to your "Start" menu and click "RUN". When the box comes up, type "MSPaint" and hit enter. When Paint comes up, press, "CTRL-V". This will paste your printscreen into MSPaint. Then Save the file and email it to me.

Dennis

I accidentally uploaded the same image twice - how can I delete one of them? Also how can I edit the title of the picture. Thanks!

Testing Photobucket upload. Works great for me. I like it!

Well,
This is brain surgery. The upload appeared once, then I selected a picture, clicked choose file and nothing happened. Then I tried to go back and try again and the feed was gone and would not come back. Sorry, but I have given up on the picture thing. Like I originally said, the other site I mentioned to Dennis automatically resizes my pictures directly from my i-photo application. Dennis, it needs to be EXTREMELY EASY for me to do this, if I need to spend more than 2 or 3 mins. on it, it's too long. Sorry!:D

PS, I don't have any clue what you asked me to do in the post Dennis, that's brain surgery with a blindfold!

Babyblue -

I don't know how much you know, so I apologize if this sounds like condescension. I just wanted to explain the basics in case you didn't know. Also, I hope I'm not stepping on any toes, here.

When most people link to a pic in their Photobucket album using the old method, they open their Photobucket page in another browser window, click the Image Tag for the photo they want to upload and switch back to the NEFF window to paste that tag into a message.

The Photobucket Upload Form that Dennis added is just a way to link to your PB pics without having to open your Photobucket page in another browser window or tab. You still have to copy the Image tag and paste it into your post. Your PB upload screen should look like this. After clicking on the picture you want, you have to click the IMG tag at the bottom to copy it to the clipboard. You will see the word "COPIED" highlighted in yellow very briefly after you do this.

THEN, scroll back up and paste that IMG tag to the message screen. The link should look like this:

I can't figure out where you'd be seeing a "Choose File" button on the Photobucket upload form. There IS a "Choose files" button on your PB page itself, but that is for uploading pics to your actual Photobucket account.

Jessie,
Thanks, now I sort of get it. The problem remains when I click on the " Display the upload form" the form does not appear. It did it for me once this morning, and will not appear again. Pasting and coping are things I did in grade school! This computer stuff gets me frustrated easily. Another problem may be that I have an Apple Macbook. I'll figure it out sooner or later! Thanks!

Jessie,
OK, I went to my album like you said and clicked on an image and saw the "copied" thing. Now, where the heck does it go? You mentioned something about a "clipboard." I have no idea where to begin looking for it. Thanks again!

BB, are you on a PC or a Mac?

If you're on a PC, once you see that it has copied to your clipboard, simply go into the post box and press CTRL and the letter "V". That will copy the image code into your post. Then simply click save and view your post. Give it a try.

Dennis,
No go with the key combo. I don't even know if I did it right. I also have a Macbook if that helps. When i say I'm challenged, I mean challenged. You need to tell me precisely each and every key stroke, move of my pointer, etc. etc. I'm that ignorant of these things. But, I can make spread sheets for my business, maybe a little crude, but they get the job done. Go figure!

If Ctrl-V doesn't work, right-click and select "paste" from the menu that appears. If no menu appears, I give up, as I don't know anything about Macs.

....and I thought the Macs were supposed to make everyone's lives easier! Can someone help BB out with Cut and Paste on a Mac?

Dennis,
I cannot tell you how much easier it is to use this machine! No virus protection software needed, microsoft programs for the mac, it recognizes my printer, camera without a hassle. There are all kind of wizard things to help with the microsoft programs. I have time machine and time capsule, a program that incrementally backs up my files every hour that the computer is on. Time capsule is a 500GB external type device that takes a snapshot of my hard drive, gives me wireless capabilities for computer and printer and many other devices that I don't have yet. The only wire that I have hooked up is my power cord.

Now, I can find cut, copy and paste and the key shortcuts, but none of them are highlighted in the drop down menu under edit. I should be able to get some help with this. I'll see today.

Don't know MAC keyboard shortcuts, but try using your browser....

Highlight the code and use the browser's copy & paste functions....Usually found in the drop down menu under the "Edit" button.....

They won't be functional unless you highlight what you want to copy first.

Blue,

I think the key combo you need for a mac is "cmd" "V" to paste. I think the copy combo is "cmd" "C"

I DID IT,I DID IT, I DID IT,:):):):):):):):)

That's where I stay when I fish. My Pop lives there now, so bringing people has ended for awhile.

OK,
This is how I did this. I can open multiple windows, as I'm sure most can also do. I, with the Mac, can click and drag my windows apart so I can see both at the same time. I highlighted the pictures, click and drag them into the post box and presto, :foto:. I'm still trying to figure out how to do it the other way.

Dennis,
There is plenty of room at the house, but, my Pop is not too accommodating about me bringing people. I've been working on him.

Rich love those Tru Form flies you tied.. quick question if you dont mind. What kind of hackle do you use when tying in the post. Is their a perticular quality that you look for in the hackle when tying that style fly?

Wylie,
I use Whiting saddle hackle, pricy, but one feather will tie about 1/2 doz flies. I'm accually up this next couple days, post report when I return!
