PA afternoon

Did a tour of CT yesterday visiting ageing relatives and got home too late last night for any kind of an early start today. I had wanted to get up to NE PA, but didn't feel like the drive so I opted for a late start and some exploring on an hour closer river. I wanted to check out the water above where I normally fish to see if it held any trout. I was hoping for a surprise hatch to get an idea of the trout population but except for the usual midges and an occasional caddis, there was no above the water bug activity. So it was to be a nymphing day instead (Rusty would have sat on the bank). I didn't have any great numbers, but did manage seven fish that included four small fish and three decent browns. The largest was a respectable nineteen inches and two in the twelve-thirteen inch range. All the fish were taken on either a quill nymph with an orange hotspot or a Ray Charles, both in size 16.
All fish were caught in the dewatered section of the river so this is a good sign that things are coming back from that FUBAR. I also did some rock rolling and the aquatic life in the upper section is prolific, another good sign.
