Or better than just a visit. Find out from him if his 2013 schedule has classes that coincide with your spring break, and go down there and build yourself a bamboo rod. Looks like the classes fill up quickly.

If you like them go for it. All that engraving on ferrules and reel seats does not make it stylish. It looks gaudy to me. I think simple elegant and understated is more appealing and inline with the way a traditional boo looks. The older H. L. Leonard,T&T and Hardy bamboos are elegant and stately. But that is just my opinion.

Larry Donahe is your guy.

Very elegant. And perhaps the greatest American builder today.

How can you even claim that? The greatest American builder today? Last I checked there are a lot of great builders today who have been at it for much longer.

Yep Bob Taylor has been around for many years and builds simply elegant and wonderful casting fly rods some of the best tapers in the states or world for that matter .Zach Pryor of Pryor custom rods is another outstanding favorite he builds his rods from the ground up and does a tremendous job. Our very own Ron Frost builds superb fly rods as well and can be considered right up there..Jason Klett is anther fine builder well on his way produces beautiful casting tapers as well . Not only that he makes his own ferrules and guides pretty cool stuff..:)

Not so sure about that Ronbo... Lot's of talk but no delivery.

Dennis,
i'll do what ever you like, I am only here to serve.
but remember you asked for for it, i didn't.ask you.
That's the difference, get it !!!
I win again!!!
This is to easy !!!!

It's been a while and I haven't heard anything about the free Ronbo rod. No pictures, no updates, no letters, no phone calls, etc...

Of course I would have never held Ronbo to this offer of a free bamboo rod but a few quotes of his just makes me want that rod even more.

1. "That's the difference, get it!!!"
2. "I win again!!!"
3. "This is to easy!!!"

When one is trying to make themselves out to be the better person, they ought to follow through with being the better person.

I really think that if Ronbo doesn't intend to follow through, he ought to recant each of his quotes. I mean... If you're going to try to make someone look stupid, you best follow through and make them look stupid.

Let me clarify my opinion...

A few guys have built what I'll call "presentation" series rods that are works of art. Oyster's rod for Jimmy Carter is perhaps the most famous example of such a rod

JD Wagner has made similarly stunning rods. Engraved. With ebony inserts... Etc.

I think Zach Pryor makes amazingly ornate rods too. He's worth a look for rods that will knock your socks off, aesthetically. I have never cast a Pryor rod, but I've looked aat them on his website foor hours.

Then there are guys like Rolf Baginski and Larry Donahe.

Rolf engraves his rods now...

But these two guys don't spend too
much time on the bells and whistles...

Instead, they build rods that do the job. They can be fairly pricy, but let me say this without hesitation: you will never get a better deal on a bamboo rod than from Rolf Baginski at the Somerset Show. You will not regret buying one of his Rods at a fantastic Price.

As to Larry Donahe, if you order a rod from him, he will send you pictures as he builds the rod (iif you request them) and, in my experience, gets the rod done in a few short months.

He is the best professional builder I can recommend iin the USA.

Two other builders deserve mention here, for there rods in the 5 wt and above class (Delaware River type rods - bigger rods).

Ronbo builds a hollow Payne 102 that casts like a rocket. It is a great rod and achievement. The hhollow built design reduces weight and does not compromise power one bit.

Rob Smith is another to look at for bigger bamboo rods. His Pentalux design increases the strength of the rod, without being too heavy.

Thats all from me for now.

I work so hard to try to post in the spirit of love and you just keep fanning the flames of hate. I think you owe him an apology. Why not offer to take him and his family out on the boat?

It is obvious that you have never cast a fly rod built by Bob Taylor as you haven't mentioned him in your ramblings. His fly rods are right up there with any in the country and will continue to grow in value . They are a dream to cast and his tapers are unparalleled ..

I haven't cast a Bob Taylor rod.

But I was a fan of his music.

Wasn't he in Duran Duran?
