Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Dry Flies Only
Well I have to say things have changed a bit since we started this site about 16 years ago. However change is a normal aspect of life.

There was a time when Guys like Jonboy, JohnW, Squirell, Caddis14, Midnight Poacher,The Heron, Cingra's , Brachycentrus and NJ Fred and I talked about Fly-Fishing only.I'm sorry I know I missed a bunch.

One thing for me that has always been a positive about this site is that I have helped some people along the way and have met some really nice people, and became very good friends with NJ Fred.

In my opinion it went from a "how to" "help newbies" to more of a chat room. That's Ok it is what it is.That's really the answer to where I have been.

Tight Line's and Always have Fun.

Well, Joe, I think you were one of our first members, along with Future Fanatic, JohnW, JonBoy and a small handful of others. With the progression of social media, we've taken a back seat. I see many people of this site using Facebook and Instagram as their primary source to reach out to people. I can't blame them, Both of those formats are quick and easy. Not sure if you use any of those formats but if you do, feel free to reach out. There is a downside though. Places like Facebook and Instagram collect tons of data from its users and a lot of people don't even realize it. Some (like me) don't really care.

So many things changed over the years and I like to think this site has had a positive impact on things. I'm aware of some of the negative impacts but who would have known.

I keep the site alive for those of you who choose not to use various forms of social media. We don't have a 10th of the visitors we had back in our heyday but, the site still serves a place for some of the old timers that still like this type of privacy with very little advertisements (other than the few fly fishing ads we have). We collect information about our users which is a big plus... We don't target advertisements other that fly fishing stuff for SIMMS, SAGE, READINGTON, Delaware River Club, and a few others that have been very generous to us over the years.

So tell me, JoeT, How's the fishing been? Still fishing the Big D?

Well my goodness, Joe T! I've tried a number of times over the past many years to get back in touch with you! It's good to hear from you!
You're absolutely right, over the course of these many years the site has undergone many changes, including the many upgrades and revamping's that Dennis has performed from time to time. Along with those changes have been the cyclical changes in participating registrants, myself included in that group.
I'm glad Dennis that you have persevered all these years, often despite some quite difficult times both personally and with the site. While I don't often log in here I do lurk, and I do appreciate the great deal of info shared.
Here's to seeing another 16 years and beyond!

Fishing is always Great. Asking me if I'm still fishing the D is like asking a Vampire if he still drinks Blood.

Sorry Dave missed your name in my short list.Wow its been a long time.I'll P.M. you

Dennis Asking me if I'm still fishing the D is like asking a Vampire if he still drinks Bl@@d

Fishing is always Good.

I began fly fishing in the early 1950's when it was possible to fish the Beaverkill on a weekend and rarely see anyone else on the river. In the late 1960's I moved to the Jersey shore and spent the next 30 years fishing the salt and never touched a fly rod. When I took fly fishing up again the sport had changed drastically and I had a lot to learn and it was web sites such as NEFF and NJTrout and contributors such as JoeT, especially JoeT, and others such as NJFred and later Fly14 who were a huge help in getting me up to speed. For that I'm grateful as I am to Dennis for keeping the site going.

I understand, I'm not a Social Media guy.Like I said I've had positive things have happened for me from the site.

Fishing is always good, because I'm fishing a lot.

Fishing the D? That funny it's like asking a vampire if he hunts at night for blood.

When I joined NEFF, it seemed as if everyone here knew everything...I didn't and still don't know close to everything (or anything for that matter:)) about flyfishing and never will...there was a lot of arguing, infighting, name calling and general unrest. I joined the mob mentality. After the "slowdown" I used NEFF as an outlet for anything and everything. Now since it seems to be shifting again, I'll stick to flyfishing and general idiotic comments will be allocated to the chatbox.....so before MAC gets the chance, I guess all my comments will be in the chatbox.:) I also learned a lot here from the people who weren't acting like asses. THANKS FOR THAT!!!

Not sure what made me think of this just now, but I remember well when DC added emojis for the first time. There were some funny "stories" told almost entirely made from emojis. That was the first time I had used them in any way and now they are a part of everyday life.

I came up with a plan to save NEFF nearly 5 years ago that was rejected.

[DETAILS REDACTED]

Thats the true story of this forum’s descent into irrelevance.

This site went downhill when you finally swapped out that 9V battery in your basement smoke detector, who are you kidding?

Let's be honest here... Some of those videos were some of the best we've ever seen! King of the monkeys!

I was drawn to them like a moth to flame for some unknown reason. I think I just needed to keep hearing the dead battery warning noise over and over to wonder what it was going to take for him to change the battery. Me? Two chirps and I'm tearing the cover off and yanking out the 9 volt. Weeks of chirping? WTF?
