New Forum. Lost & Found

I created this forum because I noticed a guy over at NJTrout lost his new rod and reel.

Please post all Lost & Found stuff in this forum.

If anyone found a Rod & Reel (Orvis) at the Ken Lockwood Gorge over this past weekend, please post your findings on this site or HERE

It sucks to lose something like this. Hopefully someone will make this guys day and report that the items were found.

I agree and I feel for the guy but how do you lose a rod and reel? I could see a fly box , net etc........But a rod and reel? I'm perplexed....

It's unfortunate, but apparently he put it in the back of his pick-up truck and it caught onto a tree branch or bush and well, that pretty much explains the rest.

If I lost a fly box, I think I'd shoot myself! I'd prefer to lose the rod and reel!

I found a unique way to loose part of my rod. Walking through brush without my rod strung,a branch snagged a guide and pulled out the thin piece of a four piece rod. Don't wait till your at streamside to string up your rod,it keeps things together.

I think that I have taken the cake in losing stuff. I took my son in a canoe from Downsville on the East Branch. I had my Sage 389 Lightline and Hardy Featherweight in the back of the canoe(upright). I paddled and helped Chris spin fish. We hit a couple of gravel bars and I had to pull us over jostling the canoe. At some point below the Corbett bridge I glanced to the back and almost stroked out. I buried my head in my hands and tried to figure out what I did and where I did it. I did not flip out (too much)because I wanted Chris to have a good day on the river. I went back several times over the next few months. I canoed it, waded and even snorkeled the likely spots to no avail. I posted a reward at Al's. I had my name on the rod too. Well I still look at that empty rod case and wonder how I could have been so careless.

Ohhh man, Chris, that really sucks. I can imagine how you felt losing that rig. I'm not sure I would have busted out the Scuba gear had that been me, but only because I would feel that it was gone forever. At least you were somewhat optimistic about it.

I wonder how many people would actually try to return something they found. I think most of the guys that visit online sites like this one would go out of their way to try to find out who the owner is, but how about the guys that have no clue as to what the internet has to offer.

"I did not flip out (too much)because I wanted Chris to have a good day on the river." It's amazing how we can control our emotions concerning things we are responsible for when our children are concerned. I've done about everything except float my hat making my son have a good day on the river or ocean.

The Avatar is a pic of my son with his first large trout.

Want to talk about losing something...When he was 5 we entered the Disney World gates (I mean literally 25 feet in)and we looked at our map for just a few seconds and we "lost him". GONE. Good thing the Chip & Dale characters had more sense than his father, they have those people dressed up but they are really security waching for problems at the entrance.
Happy ending but can you imagine, first trip away with dad and his girlfriend and they loose the boy.... That was 15 years ago. Now he is my best fishing partner.

I think having this forum for lost items is a good ided.

I / We too lost a child in Disney. It was my daughter she was 3 years old and it was at Mickey's house. Turned and she was gone . The staff were on the ball. Luckly a family found her and took her to security. Very scarey

Hello there, i'm the poor sloppy slug that managed to lose his fly rod. Thank you DennisC for posting this lost and found here and directing me to this board. It looks to be a very nice site here.

The outfit was an Orvis T3 8.6ft 4pc 5wt with an Orvis Battenkill III reel, and willow (olive?) colored wf floating line. It also had a black, bead head wolley bugger on it at the time I lost it. This is the rod you receive for purchasing a lifetime membership to TU which I did this past summer.

I layed it diagonally in the back of my truck bed and the tip stuck out and over the back corner of the box about 2". I think I lost it driving upstream just past the old railroad bridge at Ken Lockwood Gorge. The hill next the road is very steep there and many of the trees and brush hang out over the road. I'm not too particular with my truck and remember several times having branches scrape down the side.

So if someone happened to find it, as you'd imagine i'd be extremely grateful to get it back and would like to work out some kind of reward. My e-mail address is mark_jahnz@yahoo.com.
