There are two fly lines that I am considering, the SA Lefty Kreh Signature series and the Hook & Hackle Hi Floater (which is presently on sale for $25). I want the line for small stream fishing only and therefore casting distance is not an issue. Neither lines have front loops, which also is not a big issue for me. Anyone have experience with either of these lines?

I can offer minimal help on this one...
I fish with Cortland Peach DT on my 3, 4, 5 & 7 weight rods. I know of the Hook & Hackle line because this line is supposed to be either made by Cortland and sold under the name Hook & Hackle OR it is engineered to be VERY similar to the Cortland Peach DT. The hook & hackle line comes in an olive color. Do a google search on cortland dt vs hook & hackle line. You'll get some good reads and you might gain some insight in to the Hook & Hackle line you're interested in.
Never had much luck with SA lines. I do use Rio Gold on my 8 weight...it is the best WF line I've ever used. The main criticism I hear of the Rio line is that it does not hold up well but I have put in over 2 seasons (OCT - MAY) on my Rio Gold for steel in upstate NY and still casts/floats great. I am skeptical of inferior fly fishing products, I'd suggest you be patient and wait for a good deal on the big auction site.

I have used the Cortland 444 Peach DT for decades and have had no problems at all. I am not familiar with the Hook and Hackle lines.
Keep in mind I rarely cast more than 40 feet of line, usually a lot less, and like the tapered presentation. I haven't bought a line in a couple of years but I also have noticed that the Peach DT is getting harder to find.

Also, RKM, you might consider any DT line because once one end gets worn out you can take it off the spool and hook the worn out end to the backing and have brand new line to work with
I would pick a DT or WF on your casting preferences and don't worry about turning around the line to make it last longer. Turning around the line has never really worked for me. Fly lines are PVC plastic and about the time they wear out they are getting brittle from losing the plasticizer. Plus, the inside turns take an awful set after a while. John Shaner from Hardy said it best: fly lines are like tires - they wear out and you just have to change them.
