Looking for new water

Hey everyone. I just got a 3 wt. setup and I'm looking for small streams with wild trout. I'm used to fishing the pequannock but I want to explore new water. Thanks in advance.

Me too.....I usually fish in Hunterdon County, but damn it can get repetitive...most of the streams I know that hold wild fish, also get stocked, it's pretty sad...

Good luck searching! Most of the trout I catch in NJ are wild and I have spent decades learning where the wild trout are. The NJ wild Trout stream guide is a good place to start as recommended above but you will run into a lot of posted water. Have fun with it and in time you will find some favorite spots!

Too many anglers don't realize yet that the Division ended stocking on the upper SBR all the way down to Schooley's Mountain Road in Long Valley (some refer to that as route 24). Actually, to about 200 feet upstream of that bridge where the old mill dam remnant remains in place all the way up to the Budd Lake dam. Nothing but wild brookies and browns. That's 9 2/3 miles of a decent sized and now "listed" wild trout stream (WTS) water. Just mash down your barbs and release 100% of all brook trout caught. That's nearly 10 miles of water that very, very few anglers ever fish. I know, I live 300 yards away from the upper section in Flanders and I see the lack of cars. There were several out Saturday thinking the state was still stocking certain sections along River Road, but they were off by a year.

For some lesser known streams, look at the entire inventory. Some of them are pretty small so be prepared for some disappointments.

Is much there unposted water between Gonski's and Budd lake? No need to be too specific. I just assumed that the water between Angeler's Anon and Budd lake is mostly, if not all private.

If this is off Barley Sheaf road, yes, there is some great water up there...

Lots of water that the locals allow anglers to fish and only really Angler's Anonymous posts for the most part. You can't fish the private property from where Flanders-Drakestown and River roads meet upstream to Vasa Park, but above that is all brookies and public lands (land trust). But there are random pull-ins and WMA lands along with private lands that allow fishing that makes up I would guess at least 7 miles or more through that reach of the SBR.

Do you mean Bartley Road? Along Bartley and River roads are your best access to public water or private water that allows anglers to trespass.
