Squeezed the last day out of my 2015 fishing license with my good friend George on a stream that benefitted from some recent rain. The water was a rather chilly 42 degrees, but the air temp was pleasantly warmer, and there's not a single flake of snow in the woods to melt on a warm day and shock the water temperature lower. So basically, very good conditions for New Year's Eve.
The fish weren't in the mood to move very much, but when we got our nymphs slow and deep using leader only presentations, the trout rewarded us with many taps and takes.


No rising fish detected, but a few good-sized midges were in the air, and a few very tiny stonefly nymphs were crawling on us.
