New member
I have a two piece cane rod made by K C Crocker.
Has any one heard of him? Does any one know where i could find some info on him?
I did a search on him with no luck.

Thanks

You asked about ,K C Crocker he was my Grandfather. He made fly rods
in Rangeley Maine . He not only made rods, but made banks for other rod makers. These were the likes of F.E Thomas,Miller,Orvis etc.

Ken Crocker started making rods back in 1916. He used only the best Tokin Bamboo which he seasoned for 25 years. All of his rods were made by hand. His signature, "Hand made by K. C. Crocker," was written in script near the rod butt. Having that ensured that the rod was of finest quality.

Today, his rods are eagerly sought by collectors around the country!

Depending on the condition of your rod, it might be a little gold mine.

Thanks for the replys. I have not fished this rod since it came into my hands some 40 years ago. To me it looks like brand new. The cork is some what darkened but not worn, it looks straight, the finish is not worn or cracked. If I could, I would attach a picture for you to check out.
Umbagog, your Grand Dad did fine work!
Catskill lover, The world has not beaten a path to my door yet. I if they ever do I am open to offers!

Merry Christmas

Bill, thanks for getting in touch with me--it's a really nice rod, for sure!

Umbagog--can you tell us more about your grandfather? What years was he active making rods? When did he die? Do you know what happened to his rod making records and equipment? He's quite an underrated rod builder who deserves to be better known.

I own 3 Crocker rods and they are all well made and great casting rods. Crocker is mentioned briefly in Marty Keane's book and again briefly in Schweibert's "trout". Crocker is not that well known in the bamboo world and does not command the same value as a Leonard, FE Thomas or Edwards rods. A good 7 ft Crocker may go between $600.00 and 800.00 far short of the forementioned makers. Umbagog I lived in Bar Harbor for 20 years and would love to hear more about your grandfather. If you have any printed material I would love to see it. It has been difficult to get information on your grand father. If the picture works the 3 rods before the last rod on the bottom are Crockers.

Hi umbagog! I googled "Crocker Fly Rods" and came upon N.E.F.F. site. I saw your posting and decided to register. Our Grandfathers were neighbor and very good friends up on Pleasant St.. My "Bamp" was Gale Ross. He and my Dad, Jim Ross, Sr., used to take me to visit the Crocker house (many, many years ago!). Can't exactly remember all the details, but I vaguely remember sitting in the living room watching Ken peel out strips of bamboo on the coffee table. This being my first forum response, I'll be brief. We can chat later. Take care! Jim Ross, Jr.

Welcome to the site. You should know that the poster umbagog only ever posted this one time and that was nearly 8 years ago. I hope he still reads the site, but don't hold your breath.
