A try at something that looks more complicated....the wing need to be wider? thicker?......I don't know the lingo....... The body is better, imho....The married wings are tough!! Need to practice and practice to get them to sit right, as the completion of the fly is very difficult if they are even a bit crooked. Found the section in the Radencich book with the tips and hints...talks about soaking the pheasant crests, and pinching the feather steams with piers, just like Trico Mike said.....also a few more helpful tips in that section!!!! I also read the section on setting wings.....practice, practice, practice......I think I will just make a bunch of wings, wrap a thread base and practice setting them on a hook.....

Also, I have to clean up the fraying you see......an Emory board, and less whips on the finish will do it I think......

Hey MATT GROBERT...thanks for the materials!!!!!

Wow,you are making great progress quickly. Try lining up the second bar on the tippet underwing with your herl but. Also I put a drop of head cement ay the wing tie in point let it dry then flatten it with pliers. It is much easier to mount wing on flat even surface.

Thanks....I read about the fellow who uses glue to set a wing base....they didn't seem to keen on that technique in the book...I will try if I can not get a good thread base....but I think I will be able to figure it out....
....I will work to get the base thread perfect for the wing to set....My problem is the differing textures and thicknesses of the winging material...such as goose shoulder..to turkey, pheasant and peacock..they fold so easily, even before the thread hits it, they sometimes roll over in my fingers...it's almost as frustrating as fraying the floss on the hook point( I will get silk when I use up some of my floss)...practice!! The styro-foam I will try right away.....thanks for the tips....
Tobias...the hook gap, thanks, I was going with the 24 fibers, it looked too thin...I will use the hook gap as a guide now...

Also, make sure you are spinning your thread so it flattens out before you begin your when setting the wing. It will help set the wing easier.
