Housatonic River

Anyone fish the Housy in CT lately? I will be up there this coming weekend and looking for any commentary (positive, of course) before I hit the local shops. Thanks!

I would get up there asap. Its been great. I did a nymph clinic there yesterday and a guide trip today and the numbers of fish caught were outstanding! The fish are a mix of stocked and holdover browns and rainbows. The olive caddis should be hatching in big numbers in the next week. The best flies are golden stones and your favorite olive/green caddis larvae. Streamers and wet flies have been killer. The topwater fishing was great during the hendrickson hatch. Have it it!

Good luck! Let us know how you do. I'm going to try to head up that way to Housatonic Meadows to camp and fish from the 18th-21st.

I survived the Housy!!!

What a day. It started out lousy but then weather cleared and it was a nice day to be out and about on the river. Only major problem was the river was running close to 1200 CFS and was it cranking and moving!!! Wading was dificult to say the least as the water was really ripping by, but you could get out a few feet from the banks and cast out with some heavy streamers and nymphs.

I didn't hook up, as water was moving too fast, but had a few bites. Started in Housatonic Meadows State Park and then went to several pools from there. Grat fly shop located across the park which I loved- very knowledgable staff!
