High Bridge considers hydro out of Solitude dam

Let the stupidity begin!

I foresee a call to our grassroots members and others concerned about the health of the SBR over this boondoggle and the town's new proposal to dredge the impoundment above the Lake Solitude dam that is now fully silted in. Just keeping the town's silliness on everyone's radar. Remember, the town told TU and those wanting dam removal that the lake's sediment was so tainted that it could never be dredged for a reasonable cost which would have been required to remove that obsolete dam. Now that they have screwed the taxpayer and rehabilitated that dam, they suddenly want the lake dredged. If they do, it will only quickly refill with sediment and become a muck pit as it is today.

Some are raging lefty hippies and some are Wall Street conservative insiders with most somewhere in the middle. We have all sorts; heck, they let a guy with a degree in political science restore rivers :)
I believe the term for this would be "it's all good.....man" :)

This has Al Schweikert's hands all over it.. Former mayor and the only house on the "lake"... New War Cry... BOOM goes the dynamite, Down goes the dam..

I think Rusty could use some George Hayduke style help with these damn dams. They are also thinking about trying hydro power again at Dundee falls. I have no problem with that particular dam/

Brian,

You are rehabilitating them :) Restoration is impossible once they are changed, they are changed forever! You help change them for the better though :)

I think this is the guy is the puppet master . Mike Gronsky President of the Union Forge Heritage Association. Most of the documents that I have read on the Dam, he is connected to it in some way. If you dig deep enough you will find this guy an associate of Gronsky’s, William DePillo, a former plant manager from Great Falls Hydroelectric Station in Paterson who represents companies involved in hydro power, and Mountain Property Resources, a hydroelectric power redevelopment company based in Colorado. If the do decide to dredge the lake that wont be the only thing that smells fishy.

Seems high bridge has forgotten they already asked this question and were denied.

The fed considers it their providence and as such said the dams hydro was decommissioned and is no longer permitable. Their request for appeal was denied.

That's just a denial of an Exempt Permit. Now they know they need to formerly apply for a FERC License to operate, and the current fast track is over 5 years. They may go quicker only because they've just rehabilitated (NJ DEP Dam Safety & Flood Control's word) and have fresh drawings on the safety and construction of the current structure. But they'll still have all sorts of habitat studies, fisheries studies, etc. to pay for in an attempt to generate no more than $35,000/year in electric power. There's a calculation you can make off base flows, and that's the number each of us keeps coming up with as a maximum dollar amount based in current rates.

Because institutional memory is short. I did think about it. I went back and reread the denial again.

Retreading the denial maybe they think they can file as a new permit? The original request was based in retrofit where the denial said it was new.

The real rub here is in the body of the print a good deal was focused on displacing existing power on the power grid. I imagine that will still be an issue regardless of the permit.

You DO NOT want to attempt to argue with browntroutchickentrout. He will explode your platitudes with facts. He knows what he is taking about and if he does not, he will find data/research to explain his points. He is an engineer. So don't try. Not so easy of a target...
