Hardy Reels

Caddis

wanna be fly fisher.
I had no idea that in order to complain about your Hardy Reel, you had to go through Cortland.

The other day while stripping line from my "Lightweight Hardy Reel", it went dead. The spring inside broke. I called Hardy today and the person I spoke with told me that there is a parts package I could purchase. PURCHASE!!!! This is a Hardy Reel about 1yr old. He told me that it's only under warranty for craftsmanship defects. I explained to him that a spring inside broke from me stripping line off the reel, isn't that craftsmanship? Anyway, They are sending me the new part free of charge.

I'm not sure if I would purchase another Hardy reel. Hardy makes reels for Orvis, I think you're better off with the Orvis equivelent. Orvis's customer service is the BEST. They would have said to send the reel back and they would have most likely sent me a brand new one.

Strange--I have several Hardy reels, but I bought them in England. I ran over one with my car, but had several spare spools. I called them up, discovered that the line was discontinued, but they said they'd have a look round the various factories...found one for me. I had to pay for it, obviously, but it seemed pretty good service.

I think they have a problem in this country--prices are much higher for a start. Try calling the London store--v nice people always.

I can back up Orvis. I sent my battenkill la reel in (I crushed the reel and snaped the handle off). They just replaced the whole unit.
