I have had many nets...I always lose them because that little clip on the end likes to pop out. Since I have had a Brodin, this has not happened...
That looks like a nice net, but check how the cord is attached.:)

I am not a fan of the rubber bag nets. This is just my opinion and I could be wrong. I feel that the rubber bag would be prone to injure the fish while the fish flops around in the net. (A form of rug burn) Just rub you hand across the bag it has no give to it. It is all friction. A traditional net bag has far less friction.

I've got a Brodin Ghost net, and I like it. It was a gift, so the price tag wasn't an issue. Would be pricey if I was buying it for myself.

The rubber nets are nice if you fish dropper flies. They used to snag in the bag and be a pain. Rubber is supposed to be better for the fish..... doesn't remove their protective slime, so that's another reason to go in that direction.

Seems hard to go wrong with a rubber net for $20. If you decide that you're not crazy about it, then at least you didn't spend a fortune on it. I agree with lightenup about that stretchy cord. Even if you don't lose it, I've had those snag a branch, stretch out, and then launch for the back of my head.

i gave up the net, and opted for the gaffing hook.

for nets...go cheaper since all you are doing is netting a fish. Great buy. I have a brodin net and its nice, but in the winter it freezes and it really sucks. My boat net is a rubber net and I like that cuz when its on the boat nothing gets caught in it.

Hey nice find TF, u find that at the walmart in matamoras?

You could buy 7 of those for the cost of a nice Brodin net.

I personally like to have nice name brand gear and what not. But nets are always going to get broken, ripped or lost..

I have had my Brodin Catch n Release net since 1995 still nettin em one at a time. Its a cloth bag an i will upgrade in the future to a lil bigger net with a bigger hoop an rubber net..gee im wondering how long the rubber will be ok till it cracks or rots..unless its that silicone rubber they use in cooking utensils.

Why do YOU need a net for a 20 inch fish? Lets be realistic, and the reduced size will cut down on the weight. Im just trying to help:)

Simm explain that one!! two good fish could not of came from a standard dry dropper rig!!

Youre also the guy who hasn't caught a fish bigger than Ellen Degeneres's dripping Wizard Sleeve.

I was fishing 2 drys when both fish EACH creamed a fly....

1 on a glo roe and 1 on a tangerine=twins

HAHAHAAHAHAHA my two favorite colors lmao!

Simms,
that is quite a feat catching two on one fly, i was just stating my point about my Brodin an how long i have had it an works great, not sure about the rubber net bag though. how do you like the rubber net? will it rot an go bad or is it that rubber silicone that they make kitchen utensils out of?

I personally like the rubber nets over the rope bags for a couple reasons..

1. I fish alot of tandem nymph rigs and got tired of spending 5 minutes trying to free the second fly from the net. Hooks do not seem to grab the rubber very often and when it does it comes right out..

2. I buy into the theory that the rubber is less damaging to the fish...How many times have you had a rope net get caught in a fish's gill plate... or have little fish actually get caught in the web...

3. The rope nets always seem to find the sticker bush..

I use a BIG net...Mostly because clients like seeing a guide with a Big net...A longer handle also allows me to reach out on clients fish and minimize disturbing the pool as well as making netting easier when fishing solo with 10ft rods and long leaders....

As for the extra weight...I dont hang it from my back...I slip it through the back of my wading belt and the weight is distributed on the waist and not even felt...

Get a net that is sized for fish that need to be netted. I always get a kick out of the cute little nets that would have trouble fitting a 10" brookie.

The rubber will last you about 10-15 years before it starts to wear if you take care of it correctly, but you will most likely lose it before then like most nets do. The mesh or string nets will break sooner being that they are either an organic material or a cheaper nylon that the sun will damage before silicone or other poly products. Its really whatever you prefer. If you fish trout get a 18-24 inch net that you can travel with if you fish steelhead, I would just get a boat net or a bag in either material. Rubber is better in most cases except during the winter when it freezes. The best advice is the way you attach it to yourself. If its small enough put it in the wading belt. If not then get the most expensive magnet attachment you can find. its such a bitch to walk around and have it fall off every time you hit a branch. I am using the magnet now that i paid about $35 for that is the least annoying thus far.

I picked up a nice rubber basket net at the fly show from the FlyShack's booth. For $29, I am very pleased with it and the slightly larger hoop than my previous net. Flies from a multiple fly rig not getting tangled int he netting is a very nice feature of the rubber baskets.
