Fishing Creek

I had a mere three hours to fish as I was passing through the area...my hours of research suggested Fishing Creek was the way to go. First, i am incredibly impressed with how clean the road and parking areas were! Wow, just fabulous to see people paying attention to all the do not litter signs. Where I fished was a very fast road...The Narrows, I believe. I got on the water around 5pm at the beginning of a TCA which was pure luck I suppose. I was chucking a streamer...which generally where I always start out of habit. Then, spotted some risers so moved on to an elk hair caddis. First cast and pow! The fish won, though. After another few casts, it appeared as they had vacated the area. I'd heard they were spooky fish....never saw another rise in that section.

I didn't have time to explore much, but the tight banks and big boulders and lack of river paths seemed to suggest working your way up or down is difficult in this area. I wonder if people drive from pool to pool? Anyway, really loved the place and atmosphere....and the cleanliness! Great job PA!

The Narrows is a great section, I believe both special regulation areas flow through what is considered the Narrows, the gorgy part of the stream downstream of the Tylersville Hatchery. C&R at the top - 2 miles, and a shorter .9 mile trophy trout section at the downstream part of the narrows. What I personally find appealing is the fact that the special reg waters are open year round - no closed dates.

Having been there once, I accepted an invite to stay at the Lock Haven Research Cabin in the Narrows. Yes, we did hop from spot to spot in my car while fishing. Some folks I've met while fishing Central PA swear the Fishing Cr. brown trout are the prettiest in their State. I also did well on native brookies while on Fishing Cr., too.

I'd love to get back there this year but with the trips I have planned for the second half of this year it is most likely out of the question. 2015 for sure!

On a side note, I'm not saying your research at all led you to a poor decision but there are dozens of other gems in southern Clinton Co. & I've been told there are a few worth fishing in Centre Co., too.
