Finding public land

As I've relocated to New England, I am at the mercy of hunting on public land. Some areas are well broadcasted that you can publicly hunt on them, however I'm sure there are other places where hunting is permitted, but not as publicly stated. Anyone have a good way of identifying potential land to scout for hunting? I know Rusty has mentioned free tax maps in the past, but I'm not sure where to find these or what to look for.

As a side, anyone gearing up for Spring gobbler??

In Vermont, the only places you can NOT hunt must be posted. No posted signs means you're good to go. NJ isn't like that. Don't know about other New England states. But check out paper company lands which are almost always open to hunting and are very large tracts. Google is your friend.
