Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Denis Ferfecki

I received a call this morning that saddened my heart. One of the strong voices in our community of anglers has been silenced. Denis Ferfecki passed away sometime during the night and will not be wandering the streams of New Jersey this spring.

Denis was a passionate and dedicated angler who loved wild trout with a deep and abiding passion that few could match. He and I did not always agree on how trout and streams should be protected and restored, but we both agree that the streams of NJ today are not as good as they were in our youth. Like many of you i came to know him through his website the original njtrout.com site which was a hotbed of information, and arguments and knowledge. It was a sounding board for a great many voices involved with trout, fishing, bait, flies and opinions. People argued and cajoled one another and quite often got together to meet personally and fish, or have a cup of coffee or share a "secret stream". It was the classic internet campfire along the stream, where we could meet and talk or argue about all things trout.

Denis was not a perfect person, he alienated some and embraced others. He was a good friend and a fierce adversary and I had to good fortune to occasionally consider myself both. I hope those of you who knew him take a moment and think good thoughts and recall fond memories of a decent man whom we lost too soon

That is a shock and very sad news. I met Denis through his website and fished with him on several occasions. We shared a mutual love for the Toms River and developed plans for the river that unfortunately never came to pass. Agust your description of Denis is right on and I might add that Denis was an excellent writer and his descriptions of some of the NJ rivers on his original website were a thing of beauty.

He and I had our moments, but I learned a lot about native brookies from him early on with his old site. I wished he had stayed active in the trout angling community here in NJ, but he decided to quietly walk away instead. My condolences to his family and friends.

Just tried running this through google translate and it told me to go fuck myself.

I just can't believe you've made fun of CMM.
He's obviously so overwrought with the news, that his command of the English language has been compromised...
Tsk, Tsk, DC...

I mean CMM has proven over and over again that he's an emotional guy... For years now....

Yes his site was one of the first I ever logged on. He had great knowledge and experience on the NJ wild trout streams. He got a little crazy with some of the posters, but his site was an original. It's too bad he passed.
