Cool waters

This morning I fished the mid section of my favorite river and as would be expected, the flows are at all time lows. However the water temperatures are extremely good for the low flows and daytime temps. I took the water temperature in two locations approximately five miles apart. The first was just before I left the upper mid section at 1pm with a temperature of 60°F and when I arrived at the lower mid section the temperature was 61°F at about 1:30pm.

Fishing was tough due to the low flows but I managed to land five wild browns up to thirteen inches. I did nothing on my usual hot spot quill nymph, with all of the fish caught on a rubber leg stone pattern that was shown to me by Dave Hess at Tight Lines FF. It is a very simple pattern that sinks quickly and is a great anchor fly for pocket water.
The recipe is as follows:
Hook: TMC 2457 in sizes 6-10
Bead: Black or copper (brass or tung.) with a few turns of .030 lead behind the bead.
Tails, abdomen, legs and antenna: MFC Medium Barred Sexi-Floss
Thorax: Varigated Medium Chenille
