Cloudveil Hellroaring waders

Andy

Just finished a River Runs Through it!
Cabela's has Cloudveil Hellroaring waders on sale for $169.88 which seems like a good deal. I have had terrible luck with Orvis waders over the years (It's annoying but they have been very good honoring their guarantee) and am thinking this might be a good time to make a switch. Can anyone offer some feedback on the performance of the Hellroaring wader?

Not sure about the product itself but I recall reading that Cloudveil was getting out of the fly fishing gear business. I just checked their website and there's nothing fishing related on there. That probably means that if you have any problems or need to return them you won't get much support from the manufacturer since they've discontinued that particular part of the business.

I agree. Orvis's waders are an utter disgrace. I have never had a set of waders that leaked so quickly. Every pair of Orvis waders I had I had to send back. It is ashame. Dont know whats up.

Dr. Gonzo is correct, CV is steering FAR away from fishing now. ITs too bad, as they made great products for the fly fisherman.

I suspect you're right Dr. Gonzo, as I also went to their website to find more info before I made the post and couldn't see anything about fishing waders. I think I'm going to take a chance and order a pair as being the reliable company they are, I believe Cabela's will probably stand behind them in some manner if something goes wrong. The price is right and it doesn't hurt to have an extra pair on hand.

I fish quite a bit and sent four pairs of waders back to Orvis this year. It seems to me like their waders go from the drawing board directly to manufacturing without any field testing. If they are field tested, it's probably by someone who sits on their ass in a drift boat all day, rather than someone like myself who climbs up and down banks, over logs and rocks, and oftentimes walks several miles.

I've had similar problems with Orvis Waders - tailwater XT's that leaked after 2 weeks. I traded them in for a pair of Pro Guide 3's that leaked in about the same amount of time. Sent those in for repairs and they came back with over a dozen spots of aqua seal (all on defective seams). They still leaked after the repairs so corporate sent me a new pair that is totally sized wrong. It says Large Regular but they come up to my neck (and I am 6 ft tall). Haven't had time to send them back yet. My friends at the Orvis shop told me that the problem was in the manufacturing process - crappy seams and sewing practices caused the leakage. That was definitely consistent with my experience.

On the other hand, I absolutely love my Patagonias. I got the (now discontinued) Watermaster Lights and am on my second pair now after a hassle-free replacement from Patagonia for reasons not related to defect. Can't say enough good things about their gear. I also have the Riverwalker boots with sticky rubber soles. Again, no complaints.
