=Caddis Swap / CDC - Snowshoe - Deer Hair=

TR

"You can observe a lot just by watching." Y. Berra
Anybody for a caddis swap?

I missed the last fly swap one and had an idea.

The following (see photo below) are three patterns for caddis using three different materials:

CDC, Snowshoe Rabbit and Deer Hair

Patterns are by Nyles, Strolis and Matthews respectively.

See photo.

These patterns look great.

An angler ties three flies of each pattern for a total of nine flies per angler.

Five or six angler participate.

One angler gets chosen to collect the flies for distribution.

Total of 45 to 54 flies for distribution to the tyers that participate.

Won't be able to do this in the spring. The time is now.

Tight lines,

are you leading the swap?

-----

I can if there is enough interest.

Looking for five tyers.

Each tyer does three each of shown caddis patterns - CDC, Deer Hair and Snowshoe. There are good videos of Strolis, Nyles and Matthews less than five minutes in length for tutorial and recipes.

URL's are available.

5 tyers x 9 flies (@3 CDC; @ 3 Deer Hair @3 Snowshoe) =

45 beautiful Caddis flies just in time for spring.

Such a deal!

Please advise.
Thank you.

Ben Bernanke: Why buy when you can tie®

I have bin drawers full of more fly tying material and flies than I will ever use, and of course I don't have some of the needed materials for these flies.

This means I need to do a little online shopping.

I have foot surgery on 2/17 (plantar release surgery) which will have me out of work for a week and plan on doing some tying.

Size 12 caddis flies is my most used size, so count the LyNcH in for 9 flies!!

I also tie up enough extra "usual" patterns as well so everyone can see how they are one of the easiest and one of the most effective patterns out there as a dry and emerger.

Thanks for doing this, been looking forward to getting involved in a swap.

The LyNcH disclaimer: I don't tie the best dry fly patterns, but I'll give it my 110%.

LyNcH you just made me $250.00

I am going to submit these photos to A&E !!!!

They are always looking for more stars for their HOARDERS TV show !!!!

Nice collection....

Hope all goes well on the 17th.

You should have seen how all this stuff was stored up until the last month in my tiny room. I am slowly starting the move of all my rod building and fly tying stuff in the nice sized mancave, I'll finally have room!!! Scary thing is that as I empty my small room, I still have piles, boxes and a closet full of crap to sort through.

---------- Post added at 09:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:07 PM ----------

Here's a couple shot of the cave, still in the set up phase and won't be done and settled in for another month or 2. 10' ceiling is my favorite part of the room.

Trout Fever in Barryville, NY showed an interest in this caddis swap.

That's three tyers.

Two or three more tyers on the BB will complete the swap.

Hope to hear from two or three more tiers.

Once we have the roster we can hammer out details.

Good use of downtime and you'll have great patterns for use this spring!

Thank you and tight lines,

Thats like the pot calling the kettle black. Go ahead, post some pictures of YOUR tying space.

great site but the shipping is rediculous 9 dollars for three packages of cdc?? thats crazy

Here is another source for jumbo CDC feathers.

Feathercraft:

Feather-Craft Fly Fishing | Fly Fishing Rods, Reels, Waders, Flies, Fly Tying Materials | Sage Rods | Simms Waders | Since 1955

You'll make plenty of flies (size: 12 through 18) with one of these packs.

Light or medium dun is a good color as well as white.

Either source is good for decent CDC feathers.

Then again if shipping is a concern, split the cost and item with a friend.

I didn't need to order as much material as I thought. Should have them early next week and will start tying them, in between building one or 2 rods and starting my steelhead streamers for GB's swap.

ill get in on this if you guys need another person to jump in

What size are you guys going to tie in? I'm probably going to tie them in 12 or 14 as it's my usual size for my homewaters.

What's the final count TR as to how many guys we have? I'm going to start tying some up today and will post some pics.

Here is a quick tip for those of you who have not tied with snowshoe before. Take the foot, grab it between the toes and separate the foot (like you do when eating chicken wings). This will allow you access to the entire length of the material between the pads and the underfoot when trimming off your material. It will also leave you with some nice underfur which makes for great dubbing material.

Here are my RF snowshoe caddis I've tied up on size 12 hooks.

Sorry it so long to get back to you guys.

For the better part of a week, it seemed that this site was down -- at least on my end.

Right now, the emerger swap has four tyers:

LyNcH
TF
flyI4
TR

Wing material:

1. CDC
2. Snowshoe Rabbit
3. Elk or Deer Hair

I'm tying one of each in #12, #14, #16

3 flies of each material for a total of nine flies per angler.

It would be great if we could get one more tyer for five tyers to do nine flies = 45 flies.

Anybody else?

If you want me to hold the flies and disburse them please advise. You can email me directly with your names and addresses.

Kindest regards and tight lines always,
TR
