Caddis / Mayfly...

Caddis

wanna be fly fisher.
Here is a photo of a Caddis / Mayfly kind of mix. It's got a Mayfly body with the Caddis wing. It resembles a few different things, a Caddis, an olive, and a little Isonychia (because of the maroon cdc under the elkhair).

I think this is a great Spring and Fall pattern because of the darker colors. I've already proven that it works!

It's a pretty self explanitory fly, but if anyone would like a step by step, let me know and I whip up the recipe for you!

DENNIS THATS A GREAT PATTERN.I use something very simlilar that my guide friend in monatana uses.Killer pattern on the mo.He uses antron and or cdc as the underwing.

Very nice! Can I pick up a doz.? let me know where and how much to send.

The recipe:

Hook - Tiemco, I'd have to say size 16.
Thread - Red, then switch over to green.
Body - Olive Umpaqua Superfine Dubbing
Wing - Dark Gray w/tan tips.

I start at the back of the hook near the bend. Tie a small ball of red thread, and whip finish. Next, using the green thread, use the Superfine Olive dubbing and taper the body so it starts off small in the back, and gets slightly larger toward the middle. Do this until you're approx 3/4 of your way to the front. Now tie on your elk hair. Then, use more Superfine dubbing and continue your taper back down. Finally, Whip finish.

I hope I explained that correctly!

- Good luck

Dennis. I sent a check out today for $13.00 please let me know when you received it. Those flies are very nicely tied. What do you use for the extended body's on the extended body caddis. they look fantastic.

Hi Steve,

I use various chenille colors for the extended body caddis. I E-mailed you yesterday with a few questions. I tied up your flies last night, and they all look pretty good.
