I happened to have a nice discussion this afternoon about Mayflies.
Blue Wing Olives, Baetis Tricandatus to be precise.
Don't you just love latin, mysterious.. holy ghost and all that...
When I was a lad I had the inscription on my book cover, "Latin is a dead language, now it's killing me." Course, I only had it there for a very short time till one day a certain person in authority saw it.. Next morning.. a plain non-descript book cover adorned that text book... for ever... and who said we don't learn from a painful mistake...
But anyaway,
One of the points that was brought out was that this particular species hatch usually in mid May and again in October, but in a smaller size.
I have fished BWO's in the spring, but because of the pattern size required in the fall, I have always forgone it.
Everstill, I know there are many out there on this chat board know more about that hatch than I and I would welcome reading and learning from you.
As always, reminded of a painful learning experience.
