Build people up

Catskill Mountain Man

Explore, and implore to explore
Hey guys

I love the fact that we're all working together for the common cause of information conveyance lately. We should be (and have been) helpful to people who need advice even though something might seem a trivial, common fact to us. This mentality will build this site. People like friendly people!!

Excluding jackass remarks/attacks from new users, I believe anyone who comes here should be embraced and helped. It will only help to improve our stagnating sport.. (we need another "A river runs through it").

Again excluding complete, aggressive unprovoked jackass-ery AND a complete failure at proper English communication (I'll be the first to say I was one of them) then anyone and any question should be answered to our best extent.

We have no idea how many people this forum reaches with the information we provide free and willingly. (God I love this country, we're still such great people)

We had over 1000 viewers last week (at 6am wierdly).

Imagine how many fathers and sons that is. Imagine how many people discussed things learned here with others. Imagine how many fathers (future and present) will use this tool to teach their sons what they know and what they've learned.

The knowledge of fishing passed down from father to son, friend to friend, co-worker to co-worker will expand drastically moving forward, because of the internet and this community is a mainstay for our metropolitan area and beyond..

We're Northerners, we should be more accepting and inviting. AGAIN, unless there is a new user making an account to post rude and insulting comments or a complete retard (of which I used to be) posting in a nonsensical or poorly english translated way ("how to get to musky from rt78 in clinton nj??" lolol). Then be my guest and join me in laughing them out the door...unless we can help out the poorly english speaking guy.

Keep building people up and they will join our ranks, therefore providing us with more information we can use and so on.

I know its a gobbeldy gook post, but lets be NY Football Giant-esq and look classy to our fellow flyfishermen/women (cough...cough simms)

I think this site attracts jackasses.

But for a few jokes about a leg amputee, and you wanting to kick the crap out of that old guy with the broken neck, we've both brought some class to this place.

The archives of this site are a virtual encyclopedia of fly fishing knowledge, and I'm proud to be one of its authors along with you, Catskill Mountain Man.

Willing to bet they changed his med's up this month.

I refuse most medication if you were wondering, excluding necessary medication (antibiotics, anti inflammatory...etc)

Doctors like to throw those loopy pills at everyone, and every time I decline. Every time I decline the doctor says something to the effect of "good choice".

The last loopy pill I took was when I was barely 18 and had all 4 wisdom teeth removed. I took oxycodone for 3-4 days and threw the rest out on my own.

I am only fueled by determination, ambition, creativity, knowledge seeking, and a bit of beer.

I'm German, I love my beir!

Das Goot!

Catskill Mountain Boy, only problem is when new members respond to a thread and you berate them, question who they are and judge them based on how many posts they've made.

I think there should be less hospitality on this site and in fishing. I'm tired of seeing newbie yahoos wearing sandals and gay chest packs fishing in my spots. I'm also tired of hearing totally stupid questions being asked on this site by newbies. Why not do what most of the guys that have been fishing awhile do. Read a book. It seems everyone wants information spoon fed to to them now.

WHAT? Maybe you didn't get the memo, bud...(see below)
It's a Whole New Trout Fishing World... and CMM wants to be its leader...

Trout fishing is about nudging information from people more knowledgeable than yourself in the subject/watershed. I encourage others who want to fish the streams I fish. I want to hear from them how they did and what they used and the conditions in which they fished.

The information on this forum, I believe, is critical to this fragile and precious sport in our metropolitan area.

Mike you are bitter due to the lack of hatches on the upper Delaware. Stop glassing the pools and get out of the truck and fish with us men. By the way, what is the difference between a 6wt and 5wt?

I ran into a guy a few years ago. He looked like he just stepped out of a orvis catalogue. He asked how I did. I told him pretty good and that there were still some fish rising in the pool. He asked me what rising ment. I just rolled my eyes and walked away. Are these the knuckleheads we are supposed to be hospitable towards?

Now i know why you walked away from me? It was an honest question. Also, remember, to look good is to fish good.

Yes, them especially. You should take a few minuets to explain to them the tricks of the trade, it'll go a long way believe me.

I never looked like I hopped out of an orvis catalouge but I curiously and enthusiastically ask questions to fly fishermen I meet while on the river. Most people, I've found, love to hear enthusiastic youngsters ask questions and they help in anyway they can. I like that mentality, it's a reason I kept to the sport. I'm but one example (albeit I have a big mouth). Imagine how many more there are like me.

I've been frustrated and debated giving it up in the past but people like that, and people I've met on these forums helping me has kept my head in the game.

Most of you are older. With that fact it's obvious that you will pass away before me (God willing). I can take the bits and pieces of knowledge attained here from you all (and other experiences) and translate that into teaching another about the sport. Knot tying, avoiding wind knots, setting the hook etc....

So even though you may be gone, your memory lives through the teachings of the people you've taught (people like me).

In the future I could say something to the effect of:

"We'll I know there were brookies in this stream that liked to hit brightly colored streamers around dusk, but now it's mostly browns that will hit drys on cloudy days or olive wooly buggers." Maybe that was something I learned from one of you guys. Even though far into the future you'll be gone; I believe in that moment the person who taught me said fact that I'm teaching another about will look down from Heaven and smile knowing that even though their body is spent, their "essence" is still felt for years or even generations to follow.

I say all of this because my father (who is a wonderful and intelligent father who likes to fish with me) doesn't fly fish and isn't the best fisherman, I surpassed him at probably 10 years old lol.

Everything I've learned I've had to scrounge off you guys or people I've met while fishing. The ratio of knowledge attained from here to people met is about 90%/10%.

With that I have an interesting story of someone I met a few years back on the Esopus that recognized me from the forums.

I'll post it now

Anddd to sound dumb is to be dumb..

No, WBDlicker, this is not aimed towards you in specific..

LOL Now my feelings are hurt and you are now on the list along with MacFry of those is was going to buy a beer for at the show. You and he are dead to me. :cryin:

This is a great post, because I am at the age where I have to start thinking of my legacy.

I hope, that long after I die, I may have written something here that helps you avoid a wind knot.

CMM, just because we are older, doesn't mean we are smarter............ I have met plenty of old, or older stupid people.

Experience doesn't always mean knowledge either..................You are a perfect example..............you have been posting on this forum for a while now...............and still continue to make a complete ass out of yourself.....:)
