Hey, Myself and a buddy are planning a 3 day trip to fish the beaverkill. We are from new jersey, and are not familiar with the river at all. I am just starting my reseach for the trip.

If anyone fishes this river regularly, I would love to chat, either by phone or via email or private message. We plan on camping in a tent for the trip, so we are not looking for accomodations, but camping areas on and near the river are a must.

The trip's time table isnt set in stone yet, we are hoping to go early june, but if we hear river temperatures during mid summer arent too warm, we'd be apt to go then as well, and if worst comes to worst, go this fall.

So, if any locals, or others who have fished the Beaverkill before would like to talk to make this trip as successful as possible *not dependant on fish caught, but it would be nice*, feel free to private message me, or email me.

Also looking for fly shops in the area. Im sure my internet reseach will give me a broad spectrum picture of most the questions I asked, but out last "internet" research trip resulted in a dried up river, no fly shop, and no where to camp haha.

My email- Podobed45@hotmail.com

I'm looking for a discussion on camping areas near the river, hatches, secret spots *possible paid vig for the information if it works out, along with a vow of silence*.

Thank you, Dan

Yes go in early June. The Beaverkill usually warms up in the summer but not always.

Catskillflies.com is the fly shop I would recomend. It's in downtown Roscoe.

There are few if any secret spots on the Beaverkill. It's got lots of access and very heavily fished. Buy a map and explore. You might find some at least out of the ways spots.

Can't help you with the camping but I'm sure others can. Good luck.

Isn't there a campground on the Beaverkill upstream from Junction Pool? Or did it get washed out by one the previous year's floodings?

Hey, much appreciated. I will check them out for sure. I am so excited. Im basically within 2-3 hours, and having this in my "backyard" and having never fished it is upsetting. Again, ty for your information. The research is snowballing as we speak.

Hi Dan,
Do not forget the Willowemoc as well. It also fishes well this time of year. Last year about this time we took a number of great fish from both rivers using soft-hackles. It is coming into "bug week" which offers some great fishing. There is also the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum between Roscoe and Livingston Manor. It's a must see place.

The people are great, and visit Catskill Flies, The Little Store, and the Orvis Shop right on Main Street in Roscoe. Also the Baxter House Fly Shop is great, too. It is just as you are going out of town toward Rockland. Lots of things in a small place. You'll have a great time.

Wade carefully, the water clarity makes its true depth deceiving. A couple years back someone drowned in the Junction Pool, which is a lot deeper than most suspect.

There is a camp ground right on the river..Beaverkill Camp Ground (I think) it is also in walking distance to most of the hot spots..it has its own water as well..You can get stream maps and anything else you need in Roscoe, witch is a town of about a 1/4 mile with three fly shops witch are all well stocked and have all the info and tips you might want..As an other poster said head east on rt. 17 get off at Livinston Manner, follow signs for Catskill Fly Fishing Center (cant miss) you will see public acess spots on the willow..witch is less crowed.. (20 min ride from roscoe)...pm, me if you need to know more, I hit the Beaver hard this year...have a good idea whats going on...

Hi once again,
I think the Beaverkill Campground may not be open yet as they were not going to open it at all. It has a delayed opening of July 1st. At any rate, that campground is on the upper Beaverkill, not the main stem. There is a campground-Roscoe Campsite right on the main stem. It is privately owned and will accommodate trailers or tents. It's close to town, and as I said, you can get right on the Beaverkill, there, downstream of the Junction Pool. Fishing is fairly good there.

Roscoe Campsite Roscoe NY- fishing, fly fishing and camping with RV Sites and Luxury Campers

Another campsite is Butternut Grove between Horton and Cooks Falls, a little further away than the Roscoe Campsites.

Everyone has done an awesome job so far, and I appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share very much so. Rat, DC, Mark, I appreciate everything.

Rat, Ill contact you via pm for some more details, talk about your experience in greater deatail later in the week. This trip is looking way better than our last road trip, haha.

Hey.. sounds like you're up to what my buddies and I do once a year. Im from Jersey too and we usually do at least one camping trip in that area every year. I can highly recommend a campground ill pm you. You can tent it or get one of their cheap little cabins on the brook (which also holds fish). The Beaver is about a mile down the road and the Willow and Del are about 10 minutes away. Thats 3 big rivers and one small one all within a short distance. The campground is right outside Roscoe (5 min). There you'll find good breakfast, friendly fly shops, and of course.. the Live Bait Bar. The campground is family owned and laid back. Hope this will help you.

Dan,

The Beaverkill Campground opens June 26th. Here's a link to their site. Campground Details - BEAVERKILL, Ny - ReserveAmerica - [NY]

There's a great pool under the covered bridge. But get there early cause by noon it will probably have swimmers in it.

I also would recommend the Roscoe Campsites just below the Junction Pool on old 17. It's on a great stretch of water. You could start fishing at the campground then work your way up to the Junction Pool and/or down to Barnhard's Pool and fish all day without getting in yoru car.

Check your PMs.

Butternut Grove is a litter further down river (Cooks Falls). The owner Bernie is a great guy and I have seen a number of tent campers there over the years. The pool right in front of the campground usually fishes well.

Roscoe Campground is just below town and is also owned by nice people. As previously posted you can fish up or down stream and never need your car.

I would go soon, while the water is cool and not too low. Mid summer the fishing is usually morning or evening. If the water levels are good, fishing can be good during the day, on ants or beetles. It's been a while since I have seen good consistent water levels during the mid summer.

Definitely check out the Willowemoc, it can fish better that the Bkill if the water is low and getting warm.

You also have the east and west branches of the big D within 1/2 hour drive. Both are tail-waters so the water temp will be good during the summer, as long as they are releasing. But that is another touchy subject.

Once you have your dates set, post again. Odds are someone has been there recently or will be there the same time as you.

Good luck -

Thank you to everyone who has responeded, pm'd, and emailed with their thoughts and suggestions, it really is appreciated.

I definitely will post up the week I am leaving, maybe try and answer one or two lingering questions, but with the information I have received thus far, I am well on my way to improving on last years trip.
