Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Attn: Clackacraft Drift Boat Stolen / Lost!

Yo D. If I didn't know any better I'd have to say that this guy aint a friend at all.it's just too cooincidental this chain of events. lets work on this together because it seems like you need a clue! Oh righty-oh, I'm game...

He finds a boat on Monday drifting in this gamelands.

He doesnt tie it to a tree, he drives 25 miles home to drop his boat off then drives 25 miles back then home again. Thats 50 75 miles probably took him an hour and three quarters.

No calls to the police to report a found boat. No calls to any shops, no calls to anybody. UMmm.. I already posted that I believe he did inform SpongeBob SquarePants.

It would seem to me that when you find something of this size and value might wish to define size and value here... you mention it to a few of your guide buddy friends. "Hey guide pal, do you know of anyone who might have lost this boat?" Until I read it just now.. WOW !!!! why didn't he???

He doesnt contact clackacraft to see who the serial number might been registered to. Im sure they have a record. I believe they might... unless the place where they store ALL the records had a fire and they all burned up... could be..

When he gets home he doesnt put it in front of the shop figuring that maybe the owner would be looking for it and have others keeping an eye out for it, he as you claim stored it "safe and sound in his backyard" I don't get this part, if he found it and wanted to get it back to the rightful owner... no one would ever see it in the back of his yard. sounds to me more like (hid it in his backyard thinking that nobody would ever find it there). Thats what I was just thinking!

I check the flows from friday of last week until wednesday. At any given time they never went over 950 cfs. You said the river was 750cfs. THis is the equal to only a few inches of water in a river like that. That's not enough water to move this boat with a standard 25-30lb anchor. I agree, but you may have forgotten.. that the anchor line was some how UNTIED...

You said that he didn't want to broadcast this because he was afraid the wrong person might try to claim it. Ok, I have to admit, I would have put a claim in on the boat... as mine I've seen this done many times with fly boxes and rods but nothing of this size but you put some ads on the internet and say, "I found a drift boat, if you lost one, please contact me with the Make, colors, model if available and of course, THE SERIAL NUMBER" which of course the rightful owner would have readily available! Ever hear of "Finder's Keeper's"

Instead of contacting a shop or fellow guide to see if someone lost a boat he instead brings it home and WHAT! puts it "SAFELY IN HIS BACKYARD"! BAH HAH HAH HAH HAH. Ya-ya-ya-ya...You don't actually believe that crap do you! Well, up until I read your post I did, I guess.

Let me ask you something dennis. When you drop your anchor does the boat slip downstream or does it stay put? Trick question. The purpose of the anchor is to keep your boat in the same spot is it not? Maybe You said the anchor was in the same spot where you left it. So how did it come lose? Either a bear came by and neatly untied it, or someone who wanted to steal the drift boat untied it. I don't think DCknows how to tie a bowline, so I just assumed that the old saying.. "if you don't know how to tie a knot, tie a lot" applied here.

Calling the police or calling a few shops wouldn't be "broadcasting" contacting the police or a few shops would be reaching out. There's a difference. He didn't do either. didn't think of that.

If you ask me, i would never step another foot into that shop or trust this guy with anything. Now that you have pointed all this out, I guess you are right.

All I can say is thanks to the internet and users here you put enough pressure on this Ken guy to want to get rid of it. I was there for moral support too.. and waiting for a better photo of the boat, so I might be able to claim it as mine... and put itin MY back yard for "safe keping" I'm happy you got your boat back but I'll remember this story everytime I pass through roscoe and have a choice of 5 shops to stop in. This Baxter House wont be one of them.I'm staying clear from this Ken guy and his establishment. I'm glad you found your boat.DId you insure it yet or will you wait for someone to steal it or a tree to fall on it.This whole story smells like :shit:.

Wow. what can I say that I already haven't said in the post.

Other than.. maybe DC should give us all a ride in his boat this weekend...
No fishing, I just like boat rides.

Do we know he didn't contact anyone? Was that an assumption or did I miss something in a post.

AK - BTW, how do you give yourself thanks?

lot of assumations on what Ken did or didn't do with out knowing any facts of what he did or didn't do.

I have know Ken or about 10 years, and he is a very straight and I believe Stimulan's post falls under slander.

there i changed it to ask questions instead of make assumptions.People know people far longer then you know ken only to find they have another wife on the other side of town or are secretely serial killers.we never really know do we?

At this point I do have to ask, do you still believe in Santa Claus?

I have to ask this question, WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE YOUR BOAT ON THE RIVER ALL BY IT'S LONESOME????????????????!!!!!!!! Not to knock you or anything, but I would NEVER leave my Hyde just sitting at the Salmon Rivern or on any river by itself and expect to come back to it. That sucks that your boat was "lost". I am glad that you "found" it and are able to fish out of it once again. But, if you ever want to leave a couple thousand dollars sitting on the shore of a river again, leave us some GPS coordinates or a landmark so we can all go on a treasure hunt. But seriously, glad you got your boat back, but if had bought a Hyde, you could have had the Lojack installed and you wouldn't have had to worry about losing the boat.

Why.... It's in a side channel off the main river on Private Property. This isn't the same as the Salmon River.

I've attached a not so great photo of a similar situation as to how I left it before it vanished.

The river in this photo is 911 cfs. Now you really can't see the river that great but surely you can tell there are no cat 5 rapids running through this area. A portion of the boat is in the water however, it's not floating at all. It's only in an inch or so. THis would require a few more inches of water (Like 6") to even budge a little. If you see the car in the photo, the anchor is up on the bank +another car away. We're talking 35ft or so. It was also parked behind 1 of those Hydes the night I left it.

As you can see, there is no possible way that this boat came undone without the help of a human. I'm not pointing fingers at Ken but, there is no question in my mind that someone physically unhooked the anchor and pushed the boat into the river. I'll also add that the water was only 750 CFS (approx 2-3" less water than what you see in this photo) or less at any given time during this disappearing act. Hardly enough water to make this ship budge.

That seems kind of shady that that happened on private property. I didn't know it was in a side channel. That is some BS either way that someone would do that. Thank god you got your boat back. I guess now it's time to invest in some thick cable and a good lock to lock it to a tree if there are any near by if you ever do that again.
