A walk on The Musky

lightenup

A fan of Boobery
Monday early afternoon I had to go to Mayberry's in port Murray to pick-up a dead chainsaw and a blower. On my drive home I passed over point mountain bridge and couldn't resist the urge to fish. I parked and met a nice guy taking pictures and asking me to look at C.J.T.U web-site. He suggested this after I told him I let my T.U. membership expire(but that is another story, I will be renewing but when I can't say). I didn't have my waders, but no matter as the river is low and Point Mnt. can be fished without waders. It was more of a walk with my rod to see the restored section. Off I went up the river along the path, passed the usual spots on the lower end, and up to the S bend.
the S bend is still there but the water flows through it differently, and the pool above the rapids is MUCH deeper...it looked very nice.
Onward up stream I travelled and saw the changes. Lots of deep pools and riffles and a few flats that looked like they remained untouched. What a different appearance the river has there now and for the better. I didn't see or move any fish except a few small mouth in the lower section on my walk back. There were a few others fishing as well, and I didn't see them hook or land anything either. I think one of the was the MANTIS, but I'm not sure.
A report from a friend further downstream revealed I was in the wrong section of river as he had moved a few rainbows quickly(by the Yellow house). I only had an hour, so I only had a few drifts and spent most of the hour checking out the "new river"....Nice job Rusty, I guess we will let you back on the site!:)

and maybe I will join T.U. again....maybe!

Glad you liked the changes. We touched every inch of the channel over that 1/3 mile, so your not noticing all the nuances is a good thing in my eyes. We want it to look natural as soon as possible. The yellow house has some fish as well....

The section directly upstream from the S bend for about twenty yards looked the same, flat and shallow, but it looked "in place" or as if it fit......with the rest of that section...deep to shallow and riffles galore.....good times!!!! Now get some more fish in there!!!!!!!

We only did a small point bar on river right (looking downstream) and some thalweg enhancement which is where that point bar material came from. It is subtle and on purpose. But the one huge boulder above that is a single boulder pool which is pretty rare for a river this size and will be great habitat for the fishies.
