I checked the Pocono water gauges yesterday and they were above the levels from last weekend. It appears that the river is not dropping as quickly after a rain event, as was the case a few weeks ago.
With the call for overcast skies I thought that I might have a chance at some olive dry action in the afternoon. But nymphing was the morning option, again using my orange hot spot point fly and a Partridge & Orange dropper.
The first fish was a small guy of about ten inches that came on the point fly. The second fish was a very nicely colored eighteen inch fish that also took the point fly.
Moving down river about a mile I fished a run that produced another ten inch fish that took the point fly. About a hundred yards upriver there is a very deep run that gave up two nice fish, a seventeen and a sixteen that both took the P&O soft hackle.
It was now about 2 o'clock and I wanted to get down river to a spot that if there is going to be any dry fly action, it's going to be there. Well on my short ride to that location, the heavens opened up and the wind gusted to what I'm sure was more than 30 mph. When I arrived at the run, the water was now chocolate brown and layered with leaves. I stuck around for about a half hour to see if maybe things might clear enough to get in a little more fishing, either above or below the surface. But when the heavy rain made another appearance, I decided to call it a day.
Needless to say the ride home was terrible with the frequent downpours that was the cause for quite a bit of traffic congestion.
