Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
A while back there was a heated debate about buying american vs foreign rods.
For those of you that complain that America doesn't make anything heres a story to let you know why. Our own government is more worried about protecting Indian trade laws, Indian workers and raiding a famed American...
Well as AKSkim told me, its not fishing in AK, its catching. Went to visit my brother (A local guide) and did some drift boat and local stream fishing. Here's some pics. Lots of Dolly Vardens, and Bows. Occasionally a foul hooked salmon. Awesome sound to hear a fish peeling off fly line...
So I fished the gorge for the first time. Water was 60F, mostly Czech nymphed with olive and green caddis.
I watched the video, I think I was pretty good technique wise, but in the end it was one fish landed, and one other fish lost. I did mess with leader set up a bit, I eventually got the...
I noticed there are some access and fishing right of ways west of Hancock in Broome county.
Any advice about that water. Is is wadable? Is it very technical water?
I may have a chance to fish it this weekend. Any advice would be appreciated.

So my local put and take stream was last at stocked early may for a total of 400 stockers. I've gone 2 times now and been skunked. I also have a pretty good vision on the stream and can't see any trout in the holes. The state also has no further stocking plans.
What's the likelyhood that...
Ok, so how would everyone fish this creek? I must admit I've only really been fishing plunge pools lately and I need some advice on this.
General info:
1. Its a state stocked creek with Browns.
2. The stream averages 12-18" deep, and it is generally rocky bottom.
3. Access can only be had from...
I'll be fishing for Browns on Nanticoke Creek tomorrow. Not spot burning here, as all info is found via NY State DEC. Anyone ever fish it. According to NYS the stream is put and take for Browns, recently stocked within the last month.
Whats hatching in this area? Caddis? What?
So, my local stream is state stocked, and all i've ever caught is bows. Does the state only stock bows here, is it a mix?
I guess philosophically wouldn't brook trout be the best to be stocked since they are native?
Is my fly selection wrong? I've read browns are more elusive but are brookies?
So a little help is needed. Three times this week I had a nice fish on, who jumped out of the water and mid air threw my hook.
I know your supposed to keep "pressure on the fish" but I think I'm doing something wrong. Help!
So I did a little research on making coiled indicators and modified it a little with excellent results:
Hardware:
20lb mono Stren Hi-Vis
1 Bic Pen, end cut off and v notched
1 battery powered drill
Method:
Tie off one end of Mono in notched pen.
Insert other end into drill
Use drill to wrap...
So I snuck away to my small secret hole. Caught 1 rainbow on a prince.
Then a meat hunter shows up with his spinner rig and starts casting right across the pool into my lie. No questions, no how you doing, nothing.
So I tell him the pool is pretty spooked, but I haven't fished the other...
So right now I have an Orvis T3, 8.5 foot 5 weight. I love the rod, and after dry fly fishing it on a local stream I am truly impressed. I could put a dry like dart on a spot. But like all of my endeavors, one toy is not enough.
So what's everyones thoughts on a second rod? My...
Ok, I watched Aaron's video and now I'm totally geeked about trying euro-nymphing. It makes total sense.
My local stream is a small stocked trout stream. Average width is 15-20 feet. Often there are long shallow pools, with no turbulence, that terminate in a run of 8-10 feet wide with a...
So I took my 4 year old and my BIL fishing this weekend. I got my son set up with some corn and his little buzz light year pole. He loves to haul in the Sunnies.
I brought my fly rod and some small dry flys and worms as I know this hole is filled with Sunnies and some Big Mouth. My BIL...
So how do I know when to replace my fly line? I've been doing a lot of river bank fishing and my fly line ends up on the ground etc. I know I'm rough on it and I'm getting better but I know I've probably chewed it up a little. It's like I can tell its dragging in the guides
Can I clean it...
So I was fishing my secret location , tossed a green Woolly bugger, no luck. Rigged for nyphing then with a bead-head prince. Second cast I was rewarded with a nice 8" rainbow.
I was only there for about 20 minutes because I was returning from "work"
I saw 1 or two fish rising to flys on the...
So, this is my first year fly fishing and I have the definitely have the bug.
I landed a nice Rainbow stocker from my local fishing hole last week, and I have a few questions. The spot is a state stocked brook located near a bridge. They generally stock around 100 fish at a time. I worked...
